     Giftcard: no – I don’t believe you can use a giftcard to pay for it, it may be possible to pay upfront for a subscription but in order to register you do need to give them a credit card number or checking info – its their security in case you decide to not return their movies – they have a way of charging you for unreturned items.

     Free trial: You can register for the free trial but that free trial is only going to give you the 3-out plan (17.99) – after registering, go to “My Account” and there will be a link to “Change” your plan – then you can downgrade it to one of the cheaper plans. It’s very simple to do.

     There is an old saying that says “Nothing in life is free”.

     Since Jim Keyes took over the company, he realized that the stores were loosing money. The online customers would come in and exchange their mailers for “free instore exchanges”. This would not leave any movies for the “paying” customers, or those that did not have mailers to exchange.

     From a business point of view, this is suicide. They are paying rent on a building that is not making money. He was quick to understand that something had to change.

     You can continue with the Total Access plan, and not exchange in store. If you choose to do this, then it is comparable to NetFlix.

     If you choose to continue the instore exchanges, then you will have to pay for the upgrade.

   What is better for online movie rentals, netflix or blockbuster?
   I am trying to decide between netflix or blockbuster online for movie rentals by mail. Please tell me reasons why or why not one is better than the other. The only prices i have seen are blockbuster total access 3 movies at a time is a month compared to netflix a month 3 movies at a time. Do both places have movies available the tuesday they come out?

     Blockbuster is actually about the same price as netflix.
     The major difference is that Blockbuster allows in-store exchanges. Netflix can’t offer this option as they have no physical rental stores.

     no whatever u read was completely wrong. it should have said if your purchase the ONLINE Total Access then they will mail you ONLY movies to ur house and you can be able to swap those for free movies in store. the pass that you bought instore is a totally separate thing. depending on how much you pay u can get unlimited movie AND game rentals but only in store.

   Is blockbuster online a good service if i only want to rent video games?
   I often want to try a number of different games out, but buying/selling and renting for 8 bucks a pop is way too expensive, and I heard about the blockbuster online offering games, is this the way to go, or should I go with gamefly?

     it puts the movie in the my documents folder. watch it on windows media. u have to have an account

      I also have netflix and did the Trial Offer Plan with Blockbuster just to see.

      The prices are about the same.
      I liked the Netflix website better.
      The movie arrival time was about the same.
      It is nice that you can return a movie to Blockbuster and it is instantly credited as returned.
      I liked the free in store rentals but I found myself forgetting that they had a return date and I would always be late.
      Blockbuster may be better for someone who lives around the corner from a Blockbuster but for me it was on the otherside of town so the advantages really didn’t apply to me.
      I also really enjoy the “watch instantly” from Netflix. I bought the box from Roku that allows you to channel the movies from your watch instantly Queue straight to your television. I love it.

      When you first join make the list of movies you want to see. Then a few days later they start to send the movies to you through the mail.

      Once you see the movie you can return it by mail. OR you can take the movie to the blockbuster close to you and can exchange it for a movie in the store (like a coupon). You will continue receiving movies through the mail.

      You can ask the clerk to further explain the process.

      Yep, just make sure you cancel BEFORE the trial runs out.

    What can Blockbuster online do to me?
    A few days ago, I started my 2 week free trial with Blockbuster online, but it sucks. Would it be possible to just keep the 3 DVDs they sent me? I would cancel the account before the 2 week trial is over. I would also cancel the credit card(report it lost) so that I wouldn’t be charged by them. Could that work?

      Both previous answers are right. You’ll get away w/ it for about 60 days, after that then they charge you the retail price of the movies then when the charge comes back to them due to the card being canceled it is all out of their hands and handed over straight to the Credit Bureau and then on your credit report and you will get SEVERAL letters in the mail about all this. So you won’t be dealing w/ Blockbuster anymore, you’ll be dealing w/ the collection agencies.

    i recently lost a dvd rental from Blockbuster Online. If i report it missing, will i be charged the selling price or any other fees for the item?

      Yes, I am sure you accepted a terms of use and the details are probably in there. Once you received it, it became your responsibility, so yes you would be responsible.

      Approx. about 2 to 3 days however with Blockbuster you can just go down to the local store and pick them up yourself with your online plan so in all actuality you could get them as soon as you want. Don’t know if you have ever tried netflix. They have a better selection than Blockbuster however if your not intrested in hard to find movies then Blockbuster will give you more bang for your buck since you can return them at the store and get more movies.

      YES you can use your debit card to pay for it. It can be a debit or credit card or if you have a check from your bank accnt you can use that too all you need is the accnt # and the bank routing #. You will not have any problem and don’t need to get a green dot card or paypal etc etc.

    Alright, so I signed up for the Blockbuster online rentals and you get 5 in store trades that you can trade your by-mail movie into the store for one of theirs. So I haven’t used any of them and I was wondering if I could use them some other time or do they restart after each month?

      5 per month only. If you didn’t use your free rentals they won’t carry over into the next month.

      Yes you can, instead of a movie trade it for a game and they should take off the rental price. The only reason they wouldn’t is if you have a plan that has limited free rentals, a discounted game would count towards your free rentals that you get per month.

      Hi there – I use the Blockbuster service and really love it! The rates range from 6.99 – 37.99. The turn-a-around is pretty quick (2-3 days) and what is really is that you are able to take the movie to a Blockbuster store and turn it in for a free rental from that store. Of course, it depends on which subscription you sign up for. I have the unlimited 3 movies out at a time – and unlimited trading for free rentals.

      I haven’t use gamefly personally but have been told by several of their customers that they’re the same. On new release games there’s a two or three month waiting period before they become available online to rent whether you use gamefly or blockbuster online but are available in-stores immediately on the release date. I use blockbuster, PS3 games are always readily available and I get them fast but wii games usually have a ‘short wait’, haven’t tried renting x360 games yet.

      Probably 2-3 business days. The availability of the movie is what determines how long it takes them to actually put it in the mail. But it should be there in 2-3 business days.

      I was once a flip-flopper between Netflix and Blockbuster online simply because of your frustration; long waits. In the end I remained loyal to Netflix because even though Blockbuster had movies available more often than Netflix I could not wait the 3 days for movies that Netflix sent in 1 day. What I do now is enjoy my Netflix and supplement it with Redbox rentals for those long waiting new releases.

      I do both.. But I usually just wait for the ones in the mail. Have you ever rented a movie that you already own, but your copy is really dirty and skips, just so you can trade it out with blockbusters? Because they do have heavy duty cleaners so they could just clean it. I haven’t lol but I have been thinking about it.

      I haven’t tried Blockbuster, but I love Netflix. There’s more of a selection than can fit in one store.

      There’s no contract. You can sign up for one month and then quit.

      Sometimes they don’t have the movies you’re looking for, like a few foreign movies and they didn’t have Born in East LA when I wanted it, but they do now.

      Oops! Forgot you asked about price. My favorite package is for 3 movies at a time in your house, and there’s no limit to how many you can get for that month. There’s a higher plan that lets you keep 4. The cheapest package is about , but you’re limited to only 2 movies for the entire month.

    I got an e-mail the other day about how they were doing away with the monthly coupon and limiting you to only 5 trade-ins a month. OR…. you can pay a month and get 3 movies and unlimited in store trade-ins. Am i over reacting or is it a good deal?

      I’m one of the really upset people that got affected by this change. It’s so disheartening to know that Blockbuster still wants to make money by screwing customers over. The thing that really got me though was that today when I went to the store to exchange a DVD, they told me I already had 5 in store exchanges dating back to Aug. 16, BUT my billing date started on Aug. 21. I was so pissed off at this. You know, I’m actually going to ask to talk to the manager next time. AND NO MORE GAME COUPONS!! That’s total bull.

      The risk is when a company files for bankruptcy they do not have to honor any more contracts. They can if they want to, ONLY if they agree to, approved by creditors and the Court, but they do not have to honor any contract.

      The reason why one files for bankruptcy is to stop all further legal obligations, break contracts, liability payments, etc.

      The worst that can happen for you in this case is that you could lose whatever money you paid them for services, as again, they are not obligated to give you what you paid for.

      Typically bankrupt companies continue to operate through the bankruptcy process to continue generating revenue to help repay the liabilities to creditors and bondholders. Ultimately this all is decided in bankruptcy court.

      I would just rather not deal with this risk, worry or uncertainty here and join Netflix instead.

    If I order blockbuster online and download movies, is there any way to burn them to a disc?
    I want to be able to download the movies so I can watch them on the computer but also want to watch them on my tv so my family can enjoy them with me but is there encryptions on the downloads so they wont burn or anything?

      Not legally. The copy protection prevents you from doing this, and the DMCA renders it illegal for you to break the copy protection.

      It would be easier just to plug your PC into your TV. you can buy all kinds of kits and plug in devices to allow you to do this.

      You can’t rent games YET from BO, but they are supposedly working on that. Right now, they are in a war with Netflix and trying to get to 2 million subscribers by the end of the year. They are matching everything up to Netflix — same price, same format of getting movies, same title quantity — but they are offering two things Netflix doesn’t: a free 1 MONTH trial (netflix has 2 weeks) and the free IN-STORE rental coupons once a week. The second one is a huge advantage since neither service gets the hottest new releases to us quickly.

      If they offer games, I think they would rock the netflix world, but they would have to raise the price and right now, they just don’t want netflix to have any advantage.

They say on their website that you can rent games online, however I have had Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City and NCAA Football 11 at the top of my queue for roughly three months, with both being “available”, yet Blockbuster keeps sending me movies. Why?
