  I know what you mean! Another example is in Dumbo-the crow scene. Anyways, I guess it’s bc the movies are supposed to be for a young audience (though many adults watch them) so they figure that kids won’t catch on to those types of concepts. Also, most of them were made a while ago, so racism was more socially acceptable back then. Nowadays, Disney doesn’t put as much racism in their movies, but rather cheesiness….*cough* Hannah *cough* Montana…. And the Simpsons will always just be the Simpsons. I think the point of shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and South Park is to fully exercise the 1st Amendment whilst making people laugh (not to say I don’t love the shows….they’re great!). what i mean is, I watched ‘Unaccompanied Minors’ last night.   I’m having the same dilemma right now. The thing is that rumors are just rumors. For this new macbook line 2011, rumors were talking about new design, SDD startup, larger trackpad etc. I was so exited only to discover that the processor was better and that they incorporated thunderbold which no one can use right now.

  To answer your question, I think that if your old laptop is still running fine, no need to buy the new 2011 Macbook Pro. However if you really need a new laptop don’t wait a full year impatiently to end up as disappointed as me this year. Chances are they will keep the same design (as they did for a long time with the previous version).

  Just watched it. It was solid…but not amazing. Before watching it, I was kinda worried that this would be an episodic anime, but this episode sorta quelled those concerns…for now. The plot was okay. It was somewhat interesting, but it didn’t engage me like a great mystery would. Animation was solid…Bones did a good job like always, though it’s unfortunate there aren’t any 720p releases. The character designs are pretty cool too. Grevil’s hair = awesome. Didn’t really notice the music much.

  Grevil and Victorique are fairly interesting characters. It’s clear that there will be major character development for both of them. As for Kujou, he seems really average and pretty much useless. I think the main reason he’s there is to bring Victorique out into the real world, but other than that, is he going to actually do anything?

  Predictions… Well, it’s been established that the maid is the killer, but I don’t think she’s necessarily a bad guy. She knew something about Roxanne, was afraid, and lured her to kill her. We saw in the beginning the eerie cult scene where the dogs killed the rabbits. Then there was the invitation to the event where the main dish is hare. Also, while Kujou was browsing through some of the ghost stories in that one book, he notes a few of them. In particular, the one about Queen Berry, which most likely bears similarities to the ship they boarded at the end. Also, the story about wolf that could speak human languages. This is just a wild guess, but I’m thinking that Roxanne might be that wolf or somehow be associated with it…especially with the hare dinner and all that. As for the box, no clue what that was all about.

  So overall, it was a good start, but it has the potential to go either way. I’m hoping it doesn’t take the supernatural route. I’d like for it to surprise me without resorting to magical things.

I’ve been to 4 sites so far and still no luck. I’m trying to find a site with a DVD release list from as far back as lets say 2000 to current releases to upcoming releases.
Someone said IMDB: went tehre and go there often does not give you a list like you’d want. They Rottentomatoes was suggested. They don’t really give a list per say they focus on reviews more than anything. The 3rd site given was netflix… Well my brother had netflix and yes it has a nice lsit but I think it only goes so far back and it does miss some titles i’ve noticed…. For the 4th site it was Movieweb. Now this is a good site, can view by year and by month, but well it lacks browsing by genre so you get documentaries, adult films, music dvds and cartoons.

So if someone knows a good site where i can look at a nice list of dvds released like i want by year and genre it would be great.

  Then all movies will be released on the one format.

I’ve heard that they set 3D films to that really crappy red/blue polarization when put on DVD. Are any of the upcoming 3D movie releases coming to DVD with the Real3D technology that they use in the theaters?

  The problem is the 3d they use in theaters uses polarized light with each lense blocking the light of one of the double images but not the other one, so each eye only gets the one image, not both. Television can not do double polarized light, it can only do one light wave so you have a problem. The only way to get polarized like 3d on television is to do the shutter glasses that open and close in sync with the images that flash on the screen. For that you need a convertor box, the shutter glasses and most times a tv speically made to use them.

  They resort to the red and blue 3d beause all you need to use it is a color tv.

The release date states it should come out this Friday (June 10, 2011) but I cannot find showtimes or any DVD information for it.   It hasn’t been licensed yet, but it will be. So, yes, there will be an English dub available on DVD and maybe shown on TV. You won’t be able to legally watch it online and it won’t be in theaters (slim possibility it will be in select theaters like Evangelion was, but it definitely will not be in theaters like you know most movies to be).

QUESTION:
I need to webclip a part of a webpage that changes upon refresh… how can I do this?
There is a website called http://www.videoeta.com . When you go there, on the right side of the page directly below the search box, it has a DVD cover that automatically changes, and displays a new “Upcoming” release cover image and movie title upon every page refresh.

I can’t figure out the source code they use for that entire deal, that makes it change upon refresh, and contains their database of DVD releases.

How can I “Get” this part of their page, and retain all of the information and put it on my own webpage? They don’t make the code available for it, and they do not respond to emails. So, it’s my right to take it. I just can’t find the right part of their source code to jack so that I can embed it in my own website.

Can you help? Is their a Firefox add-on, or Mac software I can download to (Not the pre-installed Webclips deal on Mac – it is too slow for this) steal that part of their page?

Is anybody excited about the upcoming Rise & Fall WCW DVD which is schedule to release in August, 2009?

I hear there are talks on it, but Eric Bischoff, Ted Turner, Harvery Schiller and a few others have declined on the project, so what are your thoughts on it?

And what about this new Monday Night War Part 2 DVD that will include Goldberg?

  I have no intention of buying it (now), but after I see it on the shelf at my local Best Buy I will probably get it, if for nothing else to hear the WWE’s side of it.

  I can understand Bischoff not wanting to appear on it. He and Vince McMahon waged a very personal public war that got very dirty. Vince ended up winning so HE gets to write the history of it. It wouldn’t matter what Bischoff said on the DVD, the WWE would make him out to be an incompetent boob. Not that I’m a fan of Eric Bischoff; he just wouldn’t have been given a fair shot to air his own views.

  It would have been good to hear from Turner and Schiller about this. I would have also loved to hear from some people who were used, chewed up, and spit out by WCW. People like Jim Cornette, JJ Dillon, Ole Anderson, and Bill Watts.

  And I would have loved to hear the thoughts from the man who nearly put WCW out of business (due to his incompetence) long before the Monday Night Wars. Jim Herd.

  The Monday Night Wars were a fascinating time in wrestling history. I’ve read several books, either about this subject specifically, or devoted a large chunk of the book to it.

  I don’t have any intention of paying Vince McMahon to hear his revisionist’s history of that time, but I’ll probably end up buying it anyway. Same with Monday Night Wars Part 2. It IS a fascinating subject…

What do you think of my two favorite movies of 2011 so far?
Super 8 and Cinema Verite?

I saw both films yesterday. I was actually surprised at how much I loved Super 8. I usually hate movies where kids make up most of the cast, but these kids were all great actors. That tall, nerdy kid reminded me of one of the geeks from Freaks and Geeks. I’m bad with names…Martin maybe?

But, I can definitely see Elle Fanning becoming a big star like her sister. She’s going to be in that dramedy with Matt Damon soon, too.

JJ Abrams is a genius writer/director.

Cinema Verite is an HBO film with an all-star cast, James Gandolfini, Diane Lane, and Tim Robbins. They all gave superb performances. You know Gandolfini is a great actor when you actually forget about Tony Soprano, and view him as a totally different character. The movie really made you feel like you were in the 60s/70s, and it almost felt like a documentary, that’s how good everyone was.

So..anyway…what do you think of those two films? What are your favorites from ’11?

kids & disabilities!?
my son k is 2 yrs & 4 months. when he was 16 mths he had his 1st of 6 seizures–all related to fevers so hey have considered them fever seizures! in March of 2011 he was put on a medication called depakote just a month before his 2nd birthday. he crawled, walked & did all the regular milestones like any other child. he drinks from a sippy & a cup, he feeds himself & does everything else just like any other child his age. he doesnt speak well…some words come out clear & some come out very muffled & sometimes he struggles when he wants to say something but cant get the words to come out. We have had him in to an ENT to have his ears checked. His ears look clear yet his tonsils & adnoids are excessively LARGE. they plan to remove them in Oct to see if that helps with his words. He sometimes eats ALOT & sometimes he doesnt hardly eat anything. He LOVES to drink–always wants more milk or juice! Some of the words he knows & can say are: mommy, daddy, more, please, di di (thank you), bubbi (blanket), yes, ride, night, boat, wa wa (water), & a few others that I cant think of right now. K has been assessed with a program in the area for speech therapy! I got a call today to get the OK to have an occupational therapist come out & observe K both at home & in his regular daycare setting with the other kids. K knows right from wrong, can express to us the parents that he wants more juice or milk or points to a cabinet with the sippy cups or snacks are held if he wants something to eat. His ears work great. He loves kids movies…he can hear the train or truck coming….he knows what we are saying & can follow simple tasks like “lets go to bed” he will go up to his room, “time for a bath” he will go into the bathroom, “lets go potty” he will take off his diaper & go to the potty chair, “No”! if I ask him to go into my room or to a different room & get his blanket, a phone, a pillow etc he will do so & bring it back to me or to whomever asked! I am EXTREMELY NERVOUS & scared & have a major pit in my stomach!!! I am wondering if anyone can relate or if anyone has any information in regards to what I might be up against!!!!!

1. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson acted like they didn’t want to be there. Kristen Stewart called her win “silly” (does she hate her fans? Seems like it) and Robert Pattinson didn’t even give speeches for his win (he looked so awkward)!
2. Robert Pattinson, Patrick Dempsey, and Chelsea Handler totally bombed their parts when presenting the Generation Award to Reese Witherspoon. Reese looked like she didn’t want to be there either. She was drunk I think. (BY the way, it was cool how she blasted reality tv stars and “stars” that make sex tapes to get famous! Ha!).
3. What happened to the musical performances?
4. Kristen Stewart won best actress? Seriously?
5. Why do they have the same people presenting over and over again? Dempsey and Pattinson went more than once!
6. The jokes are lame and the celebs there have this “I’m only here cuz I’m getting paid” look on their faces!

Besides Reese’s line, the other best part was when that 11-year old cute kid who won “Best Movie Line.” Her speech was so adorable! Oh, and I’m glad Emma Stone won best comedic performance!

I’m sorry but this show sucks big time and so do the the nominees. Why do these celebs go to these lame award shows if they hate them so much?

For music,movies,being a kid I would say the 1970′s.every decade before had segregation,lynchings,depression,civil rights.I love Soul train and 70s soul groups and the only thing bad about 2011 is the ghetto music like Beyonce,Ciara and all these dirty music but way of life today is much better if only music was appropiate.

QUESTION:
how to view movies while you’re driving, not only parked, on a stock in-dash multimedia system?
I’ve recently purchased a 2011 Jeep Patriot with the Latitude package and I’m really overall happy with my purchase. On the multimedia device in my dash it lets me play DVD’s but only while I’m parked.

I was wondering if there’s any way at all that I can somehow take that limiter off in order to view movies while I’m driving. Having kids and all they like to watch movies while we drive but it doesn’t help us at all if the display won’t allow them to view the movie unless we’re parked.

Is it possible for digital/audio professionals to change that? Or even if we were to get extra monitor displays for the headrests for our kids, would there be a way to connect them to our multimedia system and they can watch the movie while it blocks it out on our display in the front.

Any help is appreciated =]

  on most factory installed front mounted video screens their is no way to bypass the video lockout. if their is a factory optional rear seat video system their may be a way to add rear screens to your jeep.

The movie starts out with kids (or pre-teens) stealing stuff in a store in the bathroom by taking them in, opening the, putting them in their bags, putting rocks in the boxes and using plastic wrap to rewrap the boxes. They use the hand dryers to shrink wrap the plastic over the boxes.

Are Apple products worth buying, when Apple releases a new product every year or two?
Especially with their iPhones? For example, let’s say you got an iPhone 3G last year. With AT&T, you must have a 2-year contract when purchasing an iPhone. They just came out with a brand new iPhone 3GS. You can’t exactly purchase it until the contract is over, unless you wanna pay for hefty cancellation fees. Then again, might as well not upgrade. Why bother? The two phones are almost the same, and you could just jail break the 3G it (which I rather not, but that’s just me). Might as well wait ’til the contract is over, ’cause Apple will just release a new iPhone in a year or so.

The same goes for Canada’s Rogers/Fido iPhone contracts, except, unfortunately for us, we are tied for 3 years (which is only for iPhone I believe.) Which means, you get at least 3 years behind on the latest Apple phone instead of 2.

Same goes for iPods of many sorts. Then again, the warranty is only about a year, and if you drop items a lot, then it might be worth changing the music player every year.

Again, iPhones, are generally the same. Same crap battery, (unless you found ways to keep battery high), same design, same look in general. Only some key differences, video, mms, 3.2/3.0 cam (can’t remember which), slightly higher speeds (for some, but speed isn’t a major factor ’cause their generally the same).

In general, unless money doesn’t concern you, why bother? I do agree that apple products are quite nice. But I guess you could just get a blackberry/reg phone+iPod Touch. It’s like having an iPhone without having a long contract. Although companies should give people the choice for a 1-year contract because of new releases.

So what are your opinions? Is it really worth it? (Sorry for the rant)

  Well if you haven’t realized yet, Apple has devout followers of sheep. Whatever they come out with, people will buy it, no matter how small (or pointless) the upgrade. In fact, most of their so called upgrades are really just evolutionary updates, like a new processor, but there’s nothing majorly different that differentiates it from previous generations of the product.

  How ‘worth it’ Apple products are depend entirely on said product.
  - iPod Shuffle died. Compare it to the Sansa Clip and if the iPod Shuffle still comes out on top – you have issues.
  - iPod Nano. Video camera that takes horrible videos, and only videos. Useful for quick snaps. Otherwise nothing majorly different from the previous MP3 playing generation.
  - iPod Classic. Kind of expensive, seeing as there are other products with more features for less/equal dollar. At least they’re keeping it.
  - iPod Touch. Probably the only player I’d get. Compare with the Zune HD. 8GB version isn’t worth it though.

  iPhones are a different story beyond the United States. Outside here, there ARE 1 year contracts (ie Europe). Longer contracts/bigger plan would result in a free initial cost for the phone. Worth it? Well, kind of, depending on what you do with it.

want to rent games online, but cant find a good one. I want something that has a lot of titles, releases new titles to rent, the day they are released, and you can pay by debit or pay-pal. Gamefly doesn’t ship to canada, the rogers video one only ships movies (i believe) and gameaccess.ca doesn’t do debit.

Are there any good ones that accept debit, or am I going to have to try and get someone to let me use their credit card every month?

Tucumcari Police Chief Roger Hatcher has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into last weeks Taser shooting of a teenage girl.

Hatcher said he shot two Taser darts at Kailee Martinez, 14, Thursday while responding to a domestic dispute between the girl and her mother. One hit her in the head and the other struck her back.

Martinez said she was released from Albuquerques University of New Mexico Hospital on Sunday following a two-hour surgery to remove one of the darts from her head.

The surgery left her with 18 staples and six stitches.

“I feel good being home,” Martinez said Tuesday. “It is a lot better than being in a hospital.”

Martinez mother, Stacy Akin, said she drove her daughter to police headquarters after they fought about a cell phone.

Hatcher said the girl walked away from the police station and when he talked with Akin she had a bloody lip and scratches from a fight.

Hatcher said he found the girl in a city park, but when he tried to talk to her she ran into traffic without looking.

Hatcher said he was unable to catch her and used the stun gun because he didnt know where she might go and he had to get her stopped.

“I was going to the park to clear my mind,” Martinez said. “I go there when I get angry. It is a place where I can calm down.”

Martinez said she saw Hatcher drive around the park and did not want to stay there and deal with him. She said she was walking west across Monroe Street when Hatcher got out of his vehicle and told her to stop.

“I remember him saying ‘stop, stop’ and then watching him pull it out (Taser),” Martinez said. “The next thing I remember was being in the ambulance, handcuffed.”

Akin said her family has hired an attorney but declined to discuss any legal actions the family may take.

Akin said they will return to Albuquerque in a week for a follow-up doctors appointment.

“To be honest, none of this should have ever happened,” Akin said.

It’s as though we don’t quite accept our daughters’ actual achievements. Females now make up the majority of the student population on campus as well as the majority in almost all professional programs, such as law and medicine. In today’s economy, with manufacturing jobs going the way of the woolly mammoth, higher education is key, and girls appear poised to rule the world.

This didn’t happen overnight. It began a quarter century ago but went largely unnoticed because of the hullabaloo over the girl crisis of the day. Remember that American Association of University Women (AAUW) study in 1991 claiming girls are “silenced” in the classroom? It felt entirely plausible. But in reality, by 1991, girls had surpassed boys on many significant academic measures; they were already, for instance, in the majority on American campuses. (Perhaps that explains the “silence”: they were busy studying.)

Matt Walsh’s lawyer asks NFL to protect his client on Spygate tapes

NEW YORK — The lawyer for former New England Patriots employee Matt Walsh said his client is willing to turn over videotapes he made for the team if the NFL guarantees Walsh protection from lawsuits or other legal action.

Attorney Michael Levy said that to date, the NFL’s initial proposals are not sufficient protection for Walsh, who is said to have taped the St. Louis Rams’ walkthrough practice the day before they played the Patriots in the 2002 Super Bowl. The Patriots won 20-17.

Rooney: Pats’ taping vs. Steelers a ‘non-issue’
The New England Patriots’ taping of opposing coaches’ signals did not affect the outcome of games against the Steelers, including two AFC Championship games, Steelers chairman Dan Rooney said.

“We consider the tapes of our coaching staff during our games against the New England Patriots to be a non-issue,” Rooney said in a statement. “In our opinion, they had no impact on the results of those games.”

Rooney’s comments were fueled by remarks Thursday by U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who has questioned whether the NFL has properly handled allegations that Patriots coach Bill Belichick had assistants videotape opponents’ signals. More … “Under our proposal, Mr. Walsh is only protected if he in good faith is truthful. And he will be,” Levy told The Associated Press on Friday in a telephone interview from his office at the Washington law firm of McKee Nelson.

“The NFL’s proposal is not full indemnification. It is highly conditional and still leaves Mr. Walsh vulnerable. I have asked the NFL to provide Mr. Walsh with the necessary legal protections so that he can come forward with the truth without fear of retaliation and litigation. To best serve the interest of the public and everyone involved, I am hopeful that the NFL will do so promptly.”

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said he’s offered Walsh a deal whereby “he has to tell the truth and he has to return anything he took improperly” in return for indemnity.

“No one wants to talk to Matt Walsh more than we do,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Friday.

“But his demand to be released from all responsibility even if his comments are not truthful is unprecedented and unreasonable. The NFL and the Patriots have assured Mr. Walsh’s lawyer that there will be no adverse consequences for his client if Mr. Walsh truthfully shares what he knows. Why does he need any more protection than that?”

Walsh, now a golf pro in Maui, did video work for the Patriots when they won the first of their three Super Bowl after the 2001 season.

Goodell said Walsh was not interviewed as part of the NFL’s investigation into “Spygate,” which involved the NFL confiscating tapes from a Patriots employee who recorded the New York Jets’ defensive signals from the sideline during the opening game of the 2007 season.

As a result of that investigation, New England coach Bill Belichick was fined 0,000 and the team was fined 0,000 and forfeited its 2008 first-round draft choice.

Six confiscated tapes and other documents pertaining to the Patriots’ taping were subsequently destroyed by the league. Goodell has defended the destruction of the tapes.

Levy, who is continuing to negotiate with the NFL on Walsh’s behalf, also objected to NFL security’s investigation of his client.

“Sending a former FBI agent to investigate his professional and personal life has not left Mr. Walsh feeling confident that the National Football League simply wants to encourage him to come forward with whatever information he has,” Levy said.

Goodell met this week with Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter and disclosed for the first time that the taping may have gone back to 2000, when Belichick first became coach of the Patriots. The commissioner said Belichick told him in their meeting last September that he believed the taping was legal. “We agreed to disagree,” the commissioner said.

Specter, the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary committee, said after the meeting that he would continue to investigate the taping episodes. He has said he also would like to speak with Walsh.

Goodell said he could reopen the investigation.

“If there is new information that is credible, new material that could be credible that would help us, yes, we’ll look at it,” he said.

But Eric Holder, a partner in Covington & Burling, the NFL’s outside law firm, suggested the NFL might remain reluctant to meet Walsh’s current terms.

“No responsible investigator would offer blanket immunity to a potential witness without a commitment that the witness will be truthful,” Holder said. “Any witness who refuses to make that commitment doesn’t deserve immunity.”

  You may want to start by enrolling in an entrepeneurship course at your local college. They will teach you all the basics of running your own business as well as standard business practices like bookeeping, tax laws, etc. which you will have to know. Gather up as many magazines and books as you can on starting and running a business and study, study, study. Check to see if there are any grants or loans for starting up small businesses in your area. I know in Canada there are many sponsored through the provincial and federal government. Go to your local employment office and they should have all of the information on government funding available there ( and they can usually set an appointment up with an employment councellor who will go over all the options with you) or look up the government listings in the phone book and ask them to send you the neccessary information and application forms. If you decide to go the grant route they will ask you to put together a business plan and do a market research study. If you plan to apply for a business loan through the bank you will have to be prepared with detailed listings of the all of your expenses including estimates of the costs of stocking your store, rent, utilities, payroll, taxes, business licences, gas, advertising, etc. Contact suppliers of dvd’s, videos, etc. and compare their prices and check to see if they are listed with the Better Business Bureau. Make sure they are a reliable company to deal with. Most companies offer special rates to businesses ( office supply stores, etc. ) so make sure to ask if they do this. Don’t be a fraid to ask people in your area what they would like to see in your store, things that are not offered in other locations and use their imput and suggestions to your advantage when setting up your business plan. Location is one of the most important factors to the success of your business. Research possible locations for your business in a high traffic area, in or near a mall, beside a coffee shop hangout ( there’s one in every town), near a 24 hour corner store or take out restaurant. Once you have your fundings in place and are ready to open the doors make sure to use every avenue to advertise. Hire a graphic designer to design a logo and business cards, posters, flyers etc.for your store and advertise your grand opening on bulliten boards, newspaper ads, deliver flyers to homes, ask local businesses if you can leave some on the counter near the till, stick them under windshield wipers of cars in parking lots and any other way you can think of. Put up a website so people can check out the newest releases, specials, etc. Contact a local pizza parlour and see if you can work out a special in conjunction with them for your opening…pizza and a movie deal or something like that, hold door prize draws, etc. to get people into your new store. The main thing is to do your research, know who your target audience is and what you will need to offer to keep them coming back. I hope this helps a bit. Good luck with your business.

  CD stands for Compact Disc, an optical medium that can store digital data. This was the medium that was created to replace the old cassette tapes. A standard CD can hold 700MB of data, around 80minutes of CD quality audio, or up to 60minutes of video. The later standard called the Digital Versatile Disc or DVD is still an optical media much like the CD but with much greater capacities, starting at 4.7GB at the low end to as high as 17GB. The high capacities allow DVDs to contain so much more information, aside from the songs and movies, compared to CDs.

  Before the advent of DVDs, the compact disc has totally dominated the media market. The CDs most prominent advantage over cassette and VHS tapes is the ability to jump to certain areas of the disc without needing to rewind or forward the medium. The digital format of storage also meant that there is no deterioration of data stored no matter how many times you play it back. CDs also became the preferred media for selling software and computer programs.

  When the DVD format was introduced, it wasn’t intended to replace the CD in the audio market. The high capacity of the DVD did not provide enough of a reason to move from CDs to DVDs for audio. But Video and Software programs that were usually stored in two or more CDs can now be placed in a single DVD. DVDs even allowed movie makers to add bonus materials into DVD versions of theirs movies. Stuff like behind the scene videos and outtakes can be found in DVDs but not in CDs.

  In terms of hardware, DVD players are backwards compatible and they can play all CDs. While, understandably, CD players cannot play DVDs. The backward compatibility of DVD players allowed most music albums to still be published in CDs instead of DVDs. The capacity of CDs is usually sufficient to hold an entire album and moving to DVDs would simply mean a higher cost with very little gain. Although there are already some music albums that are being sold in DVDs, they justify this by adding extra content like music videos aside from the audio only tracks.

  We had the same problem. We bought the Case Logic brand CD books – the cheapers ones are NOT worth the money. I hate spending the cash but they are much better.

  However for audiophile grade discs, I have been told that the best way is to store in a paper sleeves (that support the whole disc and not just the center as the conventional cases) and on a horizontal surface with stacks of not more than 25 discs.

  This problem was addressed by Pioneer and infact they had a cd-player Elite PD-75 that held the cd upside down on a firm platter to avoid warping and vibrations while spinning. However since this is a very minor problem with CD and DVD’s, most of the players (even high end) don’t even think of it and play the discs really well.

  So – store them as you wish, provided the area is dust free, ‘extremes of temprature’ free and moisture free. I store my discs vertically in their original cases.

  The one you make yourself are using DVD-R or DVD+R.
  On a modern DVD player they both should work just fine so you obviously don’t know how to make one.

  Things to remember
  a) ALWAYS finalize your disc
  b) Record using the DVD-Video format (NO -VR)
  c) Create a DVD-Video disc NOT DVD data disc
  d) Avoid using -RW or +RW (re-writables)

  30 sec maybe too short. You may want to copy it 4-6 times and make a 2 min video, otherwise you will wear out the drive mechanism.

  Yes, a Blu-ray (or HD DVD) player would be compatible (assuming you have an HDCP compliant (see below) DVI or HDMI input on your projector), but would not necessarily provide any visible benefit.

  It isn’t really the type of projector (e.g. LCD, DLP or LCoS) that matters so much as the specifications. For example, to see even minimum benefit you need a minimum “720p” projector (i.e. the 720 is number of pixels (height) and “p” means “progressive” scan), with as high a contrast ratio as possible (min 2000:1). But for full benefit you need a 1080p projector.

  What will probably show up more than increased “crispness” is increased colour richness and improved audio (although the latter is obviously not anything to do with the projector).

  A word about HDCP … it is an encryption scheme designed to prevent copying of copyrighted HD material (manufacturers think we are all criminals!). When active (and not all HD disks yet encode the “activator”) it will enforce downsampling (reduced resolution) of analog signals and total cuttoff of digital signals if the devices at each end of the cable are not HDCP compliant.

  So, a few caveats. You projector should work, but unless it is a 1080p model you will get limited benefit over DVD. It is actually likely that a good upscaling DVD player would give you as much of an improvement … and cost less.

  When you consider that there are 1% as many HD disks in both HD DVD and Blu-ray formats combined (800) as there are DVDs (80,000), and that the two HD formats are incompatible and most of the movies available in one format are not available in the other, there is little incentive to buy an expensive Blu-ray player (min 0). We will all be watching DVDs for a long time to come.

  If you don’t have a good upscaling DVD player (e.g. Oppo 981, 9), I’d suggest considering one. You might also consider the Venture HD DVD player available from Walmart (USA only) for 7 (It’s a rebranded Toshiba HD-A3) … it’s a pretty good upscaling DVD player that also plays HD DVDs (which give identical audio and video quality to Blu-ray).

  Yes. The movie size is between 15-30 GB with some below that and some above that depending on bitrate and movie length. There aren’t too many movies that exceed 30GB because of problems with manufacturing process and a high number of jitter errors on the outer tracks on dual layer discs. Right now there are only two methods of making discs with two or more layers… the “peel and stick” and embossing methods.

  Both HD DVD and Blu-ray are capable of producing at least as much detail as the film print normally seen in theaters (although maybe slightly less than the master print).

  Many HD movies don’t look as clear as we may wish … usually because they are intentionally grainy, have a distinct hue, or otherwise reflect the Director’s intent, or because the studio didn’t do a great jog of mastering the digital copy. In addition, some early Blu-ray movies were produced using inferior video formats (e.g. Mpeg 2) that could be interpreted as grainy looking.

  While specific poor releases do exist in both formats, experts agree that overall, there is essentially no video quality difference between Blu-ray and HD DVD.

  You should know that Blu-ray is the latest in technology and it is not your equipment settings that are incorrect.

  The old TV box was 4:3 ration while widescreen TV is viewed in 16:9. Newer films and most Blu-ray’s are produced in 2:35 ratio. While your projector is not a rectangle on the wall you are going to lose the top and bottom of the viewing screen to keep the movie in its proper ratio. Even more extreme is the Dark Knight which was shot in IMAX format and it is displayed in 1:25.

  If you adjust your settings to zoom or enlarge with a different ratio you will lose quality and some of the edges of the movie. LEAVE IT ALONE and watch in a totally dark environment and you won’t notice to much…

  If you downloaded an actual Blu-Ray file which is in .iso format, then yes.

  If it’s .mpeg, .avi or any other extension that isn’t .iso it’s not Blu-Ray, but is actually a ripped, compressed video file.

  There’s a reason the movie companies have 30 gigabyte movies and not 2 gigabytes.

  Blu-Ray files are usually at least 20-25 gigabytes and can get up to 40 or more gigabytes.

  If it’s under 1-2 gigabytes it’s a compressed video file. The source of the ripped, compresed video may have came from a Blu-Ray disc, but that doesn’t make it Blu-Ray. That can usually be played Windows Media Player unless it’s encoded with DivX. In that case you will need a free DivX codec found at DivX.com

  Blu-Ray discs will be in .iso and are exact image files that require something like daemon tools to read it without burning it to a Blu-Ray disc with an iso program. Iso files – or exact image copies of a Blu-Ray disc- will have menus, chapter selection and everything else Blu-Ray discs themselves have.

  Basically, brightness is too high.

  You need to calibrate your TV. This can be expensive to have done, or you can buy calibration disks (~), but the easiest and cheapest way is to find a DVD or Blu-ray disk with built in calibration screens and follow the instructions. All THX marked disks have a calibration section included (e.g. Star Wars). Sony Blu-ray disks have a similar one (accessible by punching in “sony” on the number pad). See the link for further info.

What is better for gaming and blu-ray movies LCD or Plasma TV?
I don’t have HD programming hooked up, so I am only going to be watching blu-ray movies and playing games on either xbox 360 or PS3. I may have an antenna hooked up for over the air broadcast HD channels. So I wasn’t sure if an LCD or Plasma would be better. I am looking for 42-46″ TV. Also should I get 60hz or 120hz TV, is there much of a difference?

  40″ – 46″ is the kind of grey area size. Below that you want a basic LCD. Above that you definitely want a Plasma (or if you must go LCD, LED LCD). But in that range both can potentially get the job done.

  Same with the 60Hz vs 120Hz options. Gamers would most likely all tell you to go 120Hz. But again, at those sizes, its still a grey area. It will definitely make a difference, but enough that you’ll notice or enough that it warrants the added cost? That’s where its into the grey.

  For both, LCD vs Plasma, or 60Hz vs 120Hz, I highly recommend you go to a store and use your eyes. Everyone’s visual sensitivities are different. If you can see differences, then go with the one that you think is giving you the best picture (make sure they hook up a game for you if that’s going to be your main use). If they all look the same to you, go for the cheapest.

  But do stick with the big name brands. Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung are your main friends. They are the leaders of the pack. But Sharp, LG, and Toshiba also make viable options for your to consider as well. But that’s it, other than those 6, you’re looking at 2nd tier brands that will be a risk. They might work out, but the risk is much greater.

So that means no gaming for the first 20-50 hours of operation (watch a lot of movies really quickly). And for the first 100-200 hours of operation keep the brightness and contrast cranked down (so probably stay away from games with dark scenes during that time as well, as they’ll be hard to play). But after that, optimize it and know that you’re getting as good as it gets in HDTVs.

  Bit rate is higher, that’s data per second.

  Compression is lower with newer codecs over the older MPEG2 codec of DVD movies.

  A wider color gamut, the color space of the DVD spec is not the same as blu ray.

  A digital connection. Most people with tube TVs and DVD players don’t have a digital HDMI connection. There is a loss in detail and quality with analog connections.

  Another huge plus is the sound but sadly, most people spend tons of dough on the TV and skimp on the sound. Many will never hear the amazing HD soundtracks that are stunning on blu ray.

  Yes there is a difference but how big depends on your reference. If you had a great DVD player before and connected progressively with component then you were already getting a very good picture (much better than upconverted standard def TV signals). If however you are used to DVD connected with s-video or composite video(Yellow video cable) then you may be amazed how much better upconverted DVD can look. Not all upconverting is the same though. If you spend 00 on a DVDO scaler then an upconverted DVD will look almost as good a Blu-Ray. If however you are using the built in scaler in the DVD player or Blu-Ray machine the difference will be greater between DVD and Blu-Ray discs. Bare in mind that there is a difference in the audio as well if connected to a newer receiver.

  I would go with a Samsung or Sony. You definitely want to get a 1080p model (obviously) which isn’t a problem if you’re looking for a 40″ or larger anyway. Stick with an LCD for gaming (unless you have the money for an LED).
  Also I would strongly recommend getting a 120hz model, basically anything in Samsung that is Series 6 or higher numerically will be great. In Sony’s case, anything V-Series or lower alphabetically (W, XBR, Z etc.) will also be great.
  If you have mostly Sony products to work with, stick with Sony, but remember that Samsung’s generally have a higher contrast ratio and lower price for models comparable to Sony. Good luck though!

  (To “jack”: No Panasonic does not have the best picture, I sell televisions and I get look at ALL different brands ALL day long, so i have no idea where you are getting this notion from. Samsung’s easily have the best picture.)

I download a lot of movies. Is it worth gettin them in HD or blu ray? Cause i have a VGA output on my laptop that is connected to a monitor. But i also have a ps3 and an x box that i stream movies thru. Should i get them just for my ps3?

I have about ten blu ray movies and have bought the same amount of blank disks off of newegg for about five dollars a disk. I am trying to back up the original movies to protect them while I go on vacation due to their high cost.   Vista (Ultimate) can view regular DVD movies without the add-on codec (i.e. a program to play movies), but it will not do BR.

  Not only you will need a BR drive, you’ll need a very fast computer (at least a dual-core), plenty of RAM and a dedicated graphic card (not the built-in one on the mother board).

  PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra and PowerDVD 8 Ultra can play BR movies (7.3 can play HD-DVD movies, as well).

  You need a Blu-Ray drive (those come with software if you buy a retail rather than OEM version)

  As far as the video card goes, you don’t need anything high-end, but you need something halfway decent (which the GeForce 8400GS really isn’t).

  The GeForce GT240 and Radeon 4670 (about ) are great all-around choices, but even the Radeon 4650 and GeForce GT220 (about ) can handle Blu-Ray playback nicely.

QUESTION:
Can I rip blu ray movies with my PS3, then copy them over to my PC to edit them?
Is it at all possible to rip a blu ray movie with my PS3 then copy the files over to my PC so that I can edit them? The thing is, I don’t think my PC is blu ray playback compatible. I don’t want to watch them on the PC, so should that be a problem? This is for my own personal use, obviously.

  I believe the copy protection will still be on the movie file you pull off the ps3 so you wouldn’t be able to edit any of the files. if you can manage to find your movie on DVD (perhaps renting it from blockbuster or netflicks) i would recommend downloading something like DVD43 and Hanbrake. DVD43 will let you bypass copy protection and Handbrake will let you rip the DVD once it’s copy protection is bypassed and download it to to your computer in a variety of formats. I’m not 100% sure if it works on blu ray movies, but since you can’t read blu ray on your computer anyway it doesn’t matter. If you can just take the movie file off your ps3 and select it as a source file in Handbrake on your computer it should work.

Is it worth it to buy old blu ray movies?
I was just wondering if it’s worth it to buy older blu ray movie classics such as Aliens, (whenever that comes out) terminator 2, Braveheart(whenever it comes out) when none of these movies were even shot in HD. I own the dvd’s of these but just find it hard to believe they can change the picture of something thats already been shot years ago with a dinasaur of a camera.

  The short answer: Most of the time yes.

  However, it depends on the movie. Each Blu-Ray movie released is given different treatment when transferred from the master (usually 35mm film) to Blu-Ray’s 1920×1080 format. DVDs are also made from the 35mm masters but they are transfered at 720×480. So the resolution is definately going to be better, but also the transfer process has improved over the last six years. A lot of these older DVDs weren’t given the proper transfer attention and the Blu-Ray editions are. An excellent example of this would be the classic b&w film: The Day The Earth Stood Still. It looks amazing on Blu-Ray and is a far superior transfer to the DVD counterpart. How The West was Won is another excellent example. They went through a painstaking process of recapturing the Cineorama perspective which is exclusive to the Blu-Ray.
