   My son is 6 years old an I am trying to get him interested in martial arts. I want to enroll him in lessons but at this point he doesn’t seem very interested. I want to find karate/martial arts movies that are suitable for kids that will help him get a better idea about it and possibly peak his interest in it. So far all I cam up with was 3ninjas and the karate kid movies. I’ve also been letting him watch Naruto.

5. QUESTION:
   Why are so many kids movies going 3D these days?
   Its costing me a damn fortune taking the kids to all of these movies being released in 3D. Its getting frustrating, its hurting the wallet.

   • ANSWER:
     Lover said it is because they think it will attract more people, but if you have read the news articles over the past 5 years since polar express came out in 3d in 2004, it has always been because the 3d was attracting more people. At that time everyone was taken off guard because polar express 3d that was only shown in a few imax theaters at the time sold a lot of tickets. Over the past year 2 to 4 3d tickets have sold to every one 2d ticket sold of these 3d movies. My bloody valentine was as high as 6 to 1, and that is with these 3d movies showing on a lot more 2d screens. Simply put, there is a high demand to see these movies in 3d. Actually the movie studios were very reluctant to go 3d in the beginning and decided that if they were going to take the chance that it would continue to be successful then an extra charge would have to be done to insure the extra cost of doing a movie in 3d would be made back.

   i mean a movie that is geared towards kids, but adults can really enjoy it too. something like anastasia or beauty and the beast or hercules. i love those kinds of movies but i need some more to watch. thanks

   I am 19 and I remember when i was a kid I watched movies like sleeping beauty, snow white, cinderella, and the little mermaid. All the kids movies these days are comedies. Why aren’t there any any serious kids movies anymore?

   What age do ppl start taking their kids to the movies to see child movies?
   My daughter will be one years old next saturday if a kids movie comes out after that should I take her to see it or wait until she’s like two/three yrs old?

   She’s really good in public nothing scares her and shes always alert to what going on around her.

     one seems alittle young to be seeing a cartoon film in theater under normal circumstances

     many movie theaters have one day per week/month when they set aside a movie time for families to come and bring their toddlers/infants to see a movie
     if your local movie theater has a “family day” for movies then I would take her to that and see how she responds to it
     if she doesn’t talk during the movie or get ansy in her seat half way through then you maybe could take her to a regular showing of a cartoon
     Most of the toddlers I see go to the family showings end up dancing in the aisle just to burn off some energy for a few minutes half way through the film, but otherwise it seems to work out great for most
     And really, you can’t expect a toddler to sit still for a 90 minute movie anyways, so if she’s quiet, why not encourage a dance break? keep the experience positive for her

     if your local movie theater doesn’t have a “family day” or if she doesn’t respond well to the experience then I’d probably wait until she was at least 2.5-3 years old before giving it another try.

    What are some good movies that are ok for kids?
    I’m going on a really long car ride soon, and I’m trying to get as many movies as I can for the trip. However, there’s a nine-year-old with us, so it complicates the movie selection process a little, and I’m kind of drawing a blank.     God, I see a lot of trailers for kids movies on TV, and they look SO freakin’ stupid! I can’t even stand watching those trailers! I think someone is just gonna lose brain cells for watching those movies. Like Spy Kids 4, that movie looks godawful, it’s just the same crap used in other kids movies.

      It varies. But if I can make a generalization, there are a lot of girl movies in which things just happen to the girls–the girls aren’t much in the way of controlling their own fate. Boys’ movies tend to feature boys going on a quest or fighting to achieve something. The central tension in many girl movies isn’t “can she accomplish X through her own efforts,” but “will X happen to her?” But that’s by no means in all movies with girls as the main character, just more often than with boys.

    im 15 and i miss the old clean movies like “the chipmunks adventure”, “mulan”, “jungle book”, “the legend of tarzan” etc. now kids have movies like “Rango” and “Avatar” with cursing in them.

      I agree its messed up sometimes.

      But it appeals to more audience with a few cuss words, like take avatar for example.

    What happens when 5 years old watch Raded R movies?
    Why It is wrong for kids to say foul language. but when they become adult they will use it anyway.
    When I was 8 years old I hated kids tvs, and movies. I rather watch schwarzenegger movies.
    I don`t want my kids to watch gay kids movies, I want them to be tough.

      You might think about your child at 15. You are responsible for your kids until they are of legal age. Maybe you might benefit by looking up the legal term of making your kid responsible for them self before they are of legal age because you are about to go broke paying for the tough things your kid does. Like steal cars, fight kids or cops, cuss, destroy property. Get speeding tickets ’cause they aren’t wimps. Parents have to pay for all those tough behaviors. Start saving. I hate for my tax dollars to support hoodlums in prison where they get raped and sometimes commit suicide. They can get fired for foul language at some jobs. Whose gonna pay the rent? Parents? Maybe digging ditches is a tough enough job for them? If they have gang friends then maybe they won’t have to worry about any gay kids stuff, maybe they will be tough enough to just knock them off if they mess with them.

    Old kids movies about a black and white cat?
    I am looking for an older movie from when i was a kid, everything i have found points to “Felix the cat” but i cant find the movie. I remember his magic bag. One of the only parts i remember is he gets put into a prison cell and then breaks out and starts running from them. I know it is not much detail to go on but if anyone happens to know it from that little bit i would be extremely grateful.
    It was a newer animated one not the old felix the cat feeling.

    its like 80 years of great movies, then some god awful random animated movie like toy story 3 comes out and all the sudden its #1 best movie ever on the list the second day its out. same thing happened with dark knight, and all the other kids movies! whats going on here, these slacker generation kids such a great source of disappointment for me, i think maybe these kids a few sandwich short of a picnic.

22. QUESTION:
    Do you let your kids watch movies that have ratings that advise they shouldn’t?
    I worked in a movie theatre a couple years back and I was surprised how many kids tried to go to 18A without their parents, and how many parents would come with them and let them watch movies like Saw and such even when they were under 14. Then I was thinking about it more and I know my parents let me see some movies that were pg-13 and 14A before I was 13 and 14.

    Do you look at the ratings of movies? Do you screen what your kids watch, or do you stay completely out of it? How do you decide?

    • ANSWER:
      Usually I would watch the movies by myself first to see if there was anything I objected to. I’ve found that over the years the rating system doesn’t mean the same thing it used to and mostly didn’t have anything to do with how my family was raised. Only parents know what will give their children nightmares or give them ideas they shouldn’t have. Some children have trouble separating what’s on the screen from what is real in life. Also, some parents have no clue about what is appropriate for children and what is not. Lack of discipline — kid goes because he wants to, not because it is appropriate.

    What kids movies will be in theaters Nov 1?
    I want to take my younger sister and her friend to the movie theater Nov 1….But I can’t find what movies will be out…..Where can I find this out?

      Where the wild things are is currently in the movies now. The animated movie Astro will be released 10/23. Nothing new for kids comes out the following movie, but the movie A Christmas Carol with Kim Carey is released 11/6 and looks really good.

      There are tons of Disney or Disney/Pixar films that have TONS of songs to choose from… Toy Story is cute with some great songs… so is Monsters Inc

    Do you think some parents are too paranoid when it comes to kids’ movies?
    I’ve heard that some people are horrified about a drop of blood in a movie. Like in Disney movies. Almost all of the Disney classics always had some form of magic and death. Fairy tales have magic in them so it’s no surprise that it’s involved in kids’ movies. Why do people freak out about this stuff?

      Don’t know but a parent should know their kid well enough that they should realize if their kid can separate entertainment from reality. No normal kid will see a violent movie and go kill people, if that were to happen im guessing the kid had many more deep problems then seeing a movie. There is violence everywhere. And i don’t see the difference if you.keep a kid from something its just going to make them want it more.

      I think Bridge to Terabithia is about either 7th or 8th grade kids. There are scenes in it that take place in the classroom, but most of the movie is about the two main characters’ friendship.

      Pay it Forward is another good one, but it’s with 9th graders. Although, the entire point of the movie is for the kids to create a social studies project that could change the world.

      I love both films, they’re really inspirational.

    i went to a 3D movie i mean it was sweet but it just seems odd for all ages.i mean we took a group of kids and seen allot with out kids there just seems odd to me.

    I don’t mind horror movies, I just don’t think it’s a basic need.
    There’re lots of better ways to entertain yourself and your children. Would I deprive my kids of anything if I never let them see any horror movies in their life? (or at least the first 10 years of their life anyway, before they can sneak out and watch for themselves)

      I never allowed my children to watch them. I figure there is enough violence going on everywhere else, they dont need to watch it at home.
      I like a good scare myself sometimes..but only after the kids are in bed and I watch the telly in my room.
      They will grow up just fine without horror movies.

    growing up my parents let me see all kind of stuff w/cursing and nudity and killing. and honestly, Child’s play was my first movie ever.

    i wouldnt ever let my baby, my 4 year old, watch child’s play. and majority of movies i probably wouldnt let my kids watch. what do you think kids should and shouldnt be watching?

    • ANSWER:
      I agree, to an extent.

      When my kids were younger, I simply didn’t want them exposed to mature viewing material. There was no point… for the level they were at, cartoons and kid’s movies entertained and socialized them perfectly.

      But there also comes a point when you have to realize that you can’t shelter them forever. For me, this point came when my kids started WANTING to see more mature movies. By no means does that mean that I let them watch whatever they wanted, but it was kind of a sign for me that they were maturing. I think sometimes movies and the messages they carry can help you grow, can help you expand your thinking, and when my children started truly expressing interest in those types of films (around age 14 or so), I let them, with some discretion.

    Why aren’t there many popular movies about kids in university?

    - there are tons of movies made about high school – the academics, social aspects and the sports part of it. A person entering high school usually knows more of what to expect than a university student. Thus, it is harder for a prospective university student to have an idea of what their life and experiences will be like in university. These people must rely on second hand info provided by parents, friends and other mentors. Why do you think movie makers fail to supply us these movies?

      I guess it’s because kids in high school are doing things that they aren’t supposed to be doing because they’re too young and people want to see things like this?

    I like these odd European ones that stumble across, particularly the Scandinavian ones like Forbudt for Born and Let the Right One In, as long as they aren’t those stupid ones, like Tree of Knowledge that just portray kids in the transition into adolescence and don’t actually do anything else.

      i saw schindlers list when i was in 6th grade…a holocaust story, and other very very graphic movies from a history class…we had to have our parents sign for it because it is very sad and graphic…but chances are they have been watching rated r movies since they were 9 like i have anyway…the only thing is its true…great move though…or the titanic movie but that is not compltely nonfiction…and there is a nude scene..there are nude scenes ina bout everything these days…as long as they are over 10 years old andhave permission…let them watch it, they can handle it, i and my whole class did,,,

      Heavenly Creatures is the closest I can think of to what you’re interested in. I think it’s based on a true story.

    How can some Disney movies (and other kids movies) contain so many racial stereotypes?
    For example, in the Aristocats, the Asian cat plays the piano and sings, “Shanghai, Hong Kong, egg foo young. Fortune cookie always wrong.” The cat also has slanted eyes and large front teeth.
    Other things that come to mind is Apu from the Simpsons, any number of Italian chefs who are overweight, etc.

      I know what you mean! Another example is in Dumbo-the crow scene. Anyways, I guess it’s bc the movies are supposed to be for a young audience (though many adults watch them) so they figure that kids won’t catch on to those types of concepts. Also, most of them were made a while ago, so racism was more socially acceptable back then. Nowadays, Disney doesn’t put as much racism in their movies, but rather cheesiness….*cough* Hannah *cough* Montana…. And the Simpsons will always just be the Simpsons. I think the point of shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and South Park is to fully exercise the 1st Amendment whilst making people laugh (not to say I don’t love the shows….they’re great!).     Solution to kids watching movies with sexual content, violence and profanity?
    We all know kids watch television when your not home,
    To have movies with explicit content be kept away from children.
    Assuring that content they see is age appropriate.
    how can we do this? come up with laws that are specific to make more of a positive impact?
    Other than block the shows, I’m doing this for a law class.

    • ANSWER:
      Well usually parents of little kids are home during the night.. so a law could be that the programs that are for a more mature audience could be shown at nighttime, when parents can monitor what they are watching.

    Why do some parents always shelter their kids from mature movies instead of talking them and watching it?
    Some parents need to realize that if they let kids watch and explain to them that it is only for entertainment, they can become more mature; but thats not what is happening. I always hear parents being scared to show some mature movies to kids just because they are young. Not all kids are the same?

      Because parents dont want to take the time to talk to their kids about what they have seen, so its easier to shelter them.

      “Kid’s Revolution” ..? In ‘Lord of the Flies’ they are stranded on an island and build a society free of adults, it’s not really a “revolution”.

      In ‘Addams Family Values’ the campers revolt against the scout masters.

      And I think something similar happens in “Camp Nowhere”.

    What are some really good kids movies that involve a lot of color, flames, and rays?
    Rainbows, x-rays, etc…I mean movies, movies, not videos. It’s for a summer program and the kids want to watch a good movie while on the road.
