I want to set it up to come to my TV because I don’t like watching on a computer. I live in Australia. Is it available here?

    • ANSWER:
It’s not available in Australia. So you can’t get it. Not sure if they have similar services in Australia.

If you still really want to know details:
It works by them sending you DVDs in the mail that you’ve added to your list. At the same time you can stream movies they have in their streaming database. Streaming on TV can be done as well through various interfaces (gaming consoles, Roku box, select Blu-ray players, etc).

But, again, not available in Australia. Netflix is only available in U.S. and Canada for now.

    Does netflix download anything?
I am living in australia as an exchange student and using netflix with a hotspot sheild but in australia they have a downloading limit so i am wondering if using netflix will effect this limit

    • ANSWER:
      I disagree with Robert W.

Streaming video is normally considered a download as far as metered Internet usage is concerned. While the video is not captured to the computers hard it is downloaded through your ISP to the video player in the computer and displayed on the screen in (buffered) real time

I am not sure how your Australia ISP defines download so check with the ISP to be sure.

At .6 MHz to 1.5 MHz per second for a high quality movie that is a lot of bandwidth, you are using, and can rapidly affect a your metered Internet account.

Can I even watch it on T.V. or in North America? I also heard its only available in Australia, where can I watch it in North America? What channel?

  18. QUESTION:
What would be the cheapest/best way to upgrade to HD free-to-air digital TV (Australia)?
Currently I get digital free-to-air TV because I invested in a DVD/VHS recorder/player thing with an inbuilt digital tuner.

My TV is a massive cathode-ray(I think?) monstrosity from the 90s.

Is there something I could get/buy/do that would allow me to watch HD-only channels such as the new Gem and 7mate, without having to replace the TV or the DVD/VHS recorder?

Is there something more cost effective than say, signing up for a HD pay-TV service and using that to watch HD free-to-air TV?

Or maybe even a website where you can watch any shows that interest you enough to watch in the catch-up part of official websites like SBS?

I just want a little more legitimate entertainment whilst I’m waiting for somebody to construct something like Netflix for the Australian audience.

Thankyou very much for your help and opinion.

    • ANSWER:
Just go down to K-Mart and pick up an HD Digital Set-Top Box for about .

As long as your TV has an AV input, you should be able to wire the output of the Set Top Box into the TV OK. If the AV Audio inputs are only MONO, just plug the Yellow (Video) and one or other of the Red or White (Audio) connectors into the TV, you’ll miss out on whatever is on the other audio channel but it’s good enough as long as the program doesn’t have super-wide stereo sound.

So get the Set Top Box
Unplug the antenna from the TV (or get an antenna splitter)
Plug the antenna into the Set Top Box
Plug the Video and Audio out of the Set Top Box into the TV
Select AV on your TV (you should see the install menu from the Set Top Box)
Choose “search” or whatever will find TV stations for you … then wait
Eventually you should have a Digital station fire up and by pushing the CHANNEL button on the remote you should be able to scroll through all the available channels

Note : Poor antennas with poor analog reception MAY not give you the best Digital reception, bunny-ears on top of the TV are likely a no-no.

Also Note : Depending on where you are specifically, old analog antennas, even good ones, MAY not fully pick up all Digital stations in your area properly. Digital ABC TV is just off the bottom end of the average analog antenna capability and you might get intermittent glitches for no apparent reason unless you upgrade to a digital antenna .. but give the old one a try first and see how you go.

  19. QUESTION:
What’s the deal with Helen on Lost?
I’m re-watching Lost for the first time on Netflix, and on the first season episode “Walkabout” Locke is talking to Helen on the phone right before he goes to Australia. From the conversation you get the impression that she is a phone sex employee. Did they just disregard this later or is there some explanation because isn’t Helen the woman he had an on-off relationship with for years before he went to Australia?

    • ANSWER:
Two different women. Locke was feeling lonely so he just named the girl on the phone “Helen” when he called.

The real Helen is the one he asked to marry him but she said no, because he couldn’t let go of his father issues, then when he got off the island, Matthew Abbadon shows him Helen’s grave because she apparently had a brain aneurysm in 2006.

then she’s in the Sideways and really was going to marry him. He “moved on” without her though.

  23. QUESTION:
Best Paid Sites for Streaming Movies, TV Shows, Documentaries etc?
    hey guys,

I was just wondering what the best site on the net for paid (and as such legal) streaming of Movies / TV Shows / Documentaries etc – I found netflix and whilst the site does offer streaming it seems primarily focused on being an online dvd/blueray rental store. As I live in Australia that service is useless (for those who don’t know netflix is an American based company) and as such am only interested in a site that does streaming – what sites would you recommend? Obviously price and range are the primary factors.

    Thanks in Advance,

    David

ps – to stream in HQ, how much would an average movie/tv show be in terms of bandwidth?
    hi bmoc,

whats the online streaming quality like? HD? SD?

Also (and this is fairly embarrasing to admit) but where I am located (Brisbane, Australia) we have capped internet – do you think a 150GB/month package would suffice for daily movie watching?

    • ANSWER:
I would use Netflix, for .44 you can watch an unlimited number of movies online and through your wii(if you have one). Plus you can have one DVD out per month. There is one drawback to the online streaming and that is that now every movie is available for streaming because some production companies won’t allow it. But, I still think this is the only legal way to watch movies online and there is enough to choose from that you should remained entertained. You can also try it for 2 weeks free to see if it something you would like.

  24. QUESTION:
Looking for new TV series, suggestions?
    I am looking for a new TV series to get into, I have watched a ton of them on Netflix so I am looking for something new. Some of the shows I have already watched and really liked are;
Greek, Lie to Me, Bones, Missing, Veronica Mars, The Strip, Drop Dead Diva, Degrassi, Dead Like Me, Eureka, I am open to any suggestions but I don’t really enjoy shows like Lost, Prison Break, 24, anything with vampires or zombies. The shows don’t even have to be from the US, I have been watching some shows recently from Australia and the UK so I am open to anything! Thanks for your help!

    • ANSWER:
If you like Dead like me then check out Pushing Daisies and 6 Feet under- they are all produced by the same people (I love pushing daisies)
Have you watched House? It is normally pretty enjoyable although it does get repedative.
Supernatural is great (like a better version of the X Files) if you like some of the horror stuff (there are only a couple of eps dealing with vampires and zombies lol).
If you like comedy check out Black Books, the Mighty Boosh, the Young Ones, the IT crowd- they are all of the BBC ones I can think of at the moment.
Skins is great as well as Shameless- but they are both messed up series- but very enjoyable. Doctor Who :)
For the life of me I can’t think of any Aussie shows I could recommend… which is a bit depressing because I am an aussie lol. I did just watch and enjoy ‘the Alice’ immensely- but you might have a hard time trying to track that one down.

  25. QUESTION:
Where Can I Find an Australian Paid Streaming Movies Website?
Hello everyone I am currently living in Hobart, Tasmania here in Australia and I was wondering where I can find a website that allows me to stream movies over the internet? Obviously I am willing to pay, I used to have Netflix when I lived in the U.S. but it doesn’t work over here so I am looking for an alternative. Any suggestions? I don’t really want a website that ships movies to you, I want one that allows you to stream them (legally) over the internet for Aussie viewers. Thank you for your help.

    • ANSWER:
      Try this http://www1.zmovie.tv/

I think it works universally, and remember to bookmark other sites on its homepage since it updates like everyday

  26. QUESTION:
I finally found my reasons to be patriotic about America and wonder what you guys think about this..?
I’ve been seeing lately how Australia has capped internet and Canada kinda is going through that crap and how government has more power to easily enforce bs in places like the UK and what not. Which leaves me to realize that most countries can easily make big decisions easily and ruin peoples fun more.

So I finally sat and thought about my netflix instant and my torrents and soulseek and uncapped internet and possibility to if I wanted to fight so hard could have the ability to even live in California and have medical marijuana if I want and though the piracy part is still illegal I could basically try to cope more by using rhapsody. But the thing is I’ll probably never get caught because of privacy laws and what not and though I know it would never last forever my point is this…

We damn well have far more we can enjoy here more things legal even medical weed in cali for even just things such as stress and the fact that as long as privacy laws are as is most will never get fined for piracy unless caught selling. So I’ve come to figure..

If I could never do any of that again just because I had to be some where else where that is really either being cracked down on or has already had a stop put to it I finally opened my eyes and said to myself..

God Bless America, not the corporate or government America or media but the secret lives average Joes like me or possibly you if you’re American can live and damn well even get away with scott free which quite technically in a contest of what country is more liberal I’d say we “technically” are more by this fact and so be it I do at least love America for that!…

    • ANSWER:
That’s all very well for you, but get caught and you’re toast! Yours is the country that sentenced a man who stole a slice of pizza to 30 years in jail! Yours is the country that makes it illegal for gay men to be sperm donors, yours is the country that allows the execution of obviously mentally ill murderers (Aileen Wuornos). I could carry on and on about the lack of civil liberties in America. If you’re white and middle class, you’ve got it made. Dare to be anything else and you will pay the price sooner or later.
