     Apparently it takes Netflix Canada awhile to get newly released movies. I think for Inception, it took about 6 months for Netflix Canada to release for people to watch.

     Probably not. They IP block Canada from the US service.

     it might be possible expect that netflix charges a monthly fee each month and what if the card
     you used is used up? you will get ding by netflix or your account will be canceled for non-payment
     also some prepaid card do not allow monthly charges like netflix

   I think my ip address might say that I live in the US. I can’t get to the netflix canada website?
   Every time I go to netfix.ca it auto redirects me to the US netflix website. And there’s no button to switch to the Canada site. How can I get to the Canada site?

     First check out what is your IP address with IP trackers:

     http://www.ip-address.org

     http://www.ipaddresslocation.org

     http://www.find-ip-address.org

     If they show USA website then netfix.ca see as someone from USA and not from Canada. They probably give access to their resources only to Canadian IP address. To access with Canadian IP address then you need Canadian ISP or to use proxy server.
     http://www.proxyblind.org has recently posted some Canadian proxy servers. Try to use it and see of you can visit website.

     Remember use proxy server only for surfing and entertainment. Do not use it if you need to enter sensible information’s such as password/login, creditcard etc….

    Why does Netflix Canada have movies that say unavailable?
    Movies like Black hawk down or TV shows like the office are there when you browse for them but they say unavailable when you try to select them.

      ”Not everything available on disk is available for streaming.” are you using Wii?? ”Wii can only deliver what is available for streaming. Not every movie is available that way. That’s what a full Netflix account with DVD shipments is for”

    Is anyone else having problems with Netflix canada?
    When I try to go on my xbox with it, it says it cannot connect at this time. Then when I sign in on the computer it’s not recognizing me as a user. I even went in and changed my password through email. Still nothing.

      I just saw a question earlier about someone not being able to log into their account. I’m sure it will be straightened out in time but if not you can always cancel it and switch to something else. Good luck.

      Television and movies are made by Canadians not for Canadians.

      Actually I think it is just harder to licence intellectual properties in Canada
      the USA streaming has had much longer to build up the service. Hopefully it will improve as their market builds or another company will have the sense to make a better service

    Is Netflix in Canada different then the Netflix in the States?
    I am in Canada, and we have a lot of movies, but there are still a lot of N/A movies. Also shows that don’t have all the seasons etc. Like the Canadian show “Trailer Park Boys” my favourite show, and it only had 5 seasons hear, and the X-Mas special. I heard in the states it had all the seasons and both the movies…

    So basically I am asking, is the USA selection a lot larger then the Canadian one?

      We also have DvD and blu-ray rentals and Canada is streaming only

      the programs on Watch instant have to be licensed by the program’s distributor. in either country.

      I looked up that title’s DVDs on both Amazon.com (US) and Aamzon.ca (Canada)

      Alliance publishes and distributes the Canadian DVD
      E1 publishes and distributes the American DVDs

      it appears a different distributor in Canada owns the rights. We have up to season 7 on both dvd and streaming of that show (I looked it up)

      We also have a lot of shows that don’t stream every season. Like I said, the streaming shows have to be licensed

      so since apparently a different company owns the rights in Canada, the license to stream it is likely different. so it is very possible Canada’s selection is diffferent

    Can anybody please explain to me how Netflix Canada works?
    I know you have to prepay by credit card for the first month, and you get a full month free trail and your card does not get billed til after the first month expires. I get that.
    But i”m confused about the renting movies part, how does it work?
    Do they mail the movies to you through mail?
    how is that you can watch them through the computer?
    And also, how many movies can you watch in a month?
    What was the most you have ever watched in a month?

      I’m in the US, and I just tried going to netflix.ca, but it took me to the same site I go to all the time (netflix.com). So based on this, I’m assuming it works the same as it does in the US.

      So how does it work? You put movies in your queue that you want to see. They send you one, two, three, or how ever many you sign up to have at a time (the more you want at a time, the higher the subscription fee) through the mail to your home. You watch them at your convenience, then send them back (they provide a postage paid envelope for this). They have distribution points all over the country, so the time in the mail is very short (usually it gets there the next morning). They process it and send the next disc in your queue out to you, which you usually get the day after they receive it (2 days from when you send it in).

      How can you watch online? They have license agreements with the movie companies to show the movies they have available for streaming online. You pick the movie you want on your computer and watch it. There are also many other devices that have (or you can get) Netflix software to watch their streaming movies on – DVD players, TV’s, iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad, Android devices, gaming systems (Playstation 3, Wii, etc.) and so on.

      How many movies can you watch a month? For most plans, as many as you can – there is no limit. They do have one plan that only allows 2 DVD’s a month (one at a time), and you can stream only 2 hours a month to a computer (no other devices can be used). This is the cheapest plan available. There is also a plan that is streaming only, and no DVD’s are sent (this is the next cheapest plan, and is unlimited the number of movies you can watch). After these pans, you get unlimited DVD’s and streaming movies, and are only limited to the number of DVD’s out at a time (the more out at a time, the higher the fee).

      The most I’ve watched in a month? I never really tracked it, but I get one DVD at a time and have unlimited streaming. I’ve worked it out so I usually get 2 DVD’s a week (I watch it the night I get it in the mail and send back the next day), and also I watch a lot of streaming from Netflix. In fact, I think I watch more Netflix movies and shows than I do on regular TV or cable TV. I also don’t subscribe to any movie channels through my cable company since Netflix takes care this for me, and for a lot less than the cable company would charge.

    When you buy Netflix (Canada), will more movies be added besides the ones in the 1month free trial?
    Maybe some anime, or old disney movies?

      According to what the company is saying, and what simple free-market competition principles dictate, more movies will be added over time…. but it seems to be tough sledding for Netflix, for some reason or the other: their selection so far is pretty meager!! You don’t get any more after your 1 month trial either: what you see there, is what you get in the full-paid version.

    Does anyone else have this problem with Netflix Canada?
    We use a PS3 to watch it, and sometimes — even if no one’s doing anything else online — it’ll take five minutes to load, and then only plays for thirty seconds, then loads for five minutes again.

      I have heard of this but never seen it. (I use Netflix Canada on the Wii and it’s great) Are you using multiple firewalls? It sounds like a network issue not a PS3 problem. How is web browsing on the PS3? Are you connected wirelessly?

      I’m from Canada as well, I think It’s about licensing rights. When I joined 2 months ago, I got to watch 21 Jump Street episodes then they took them out. I’m not sure if the longer you are a member the more movies and shows become available.

      It has a large enough selection to make everyone happy. Once you have a membership, you can use it on any computer, any tv that is compatible. I know, because I went to another state, and was able to access mine from the US. I am in Wisconsin, and went to Texas.

      Netflix is relatively new in Canada, it probably looks to you like it did in the US when it first started. It’s all about licensing of the material. They are constantly working on getting more selections for customers both in the US and now in Canada.

    How can I sign up for netflix in Canada?
    I tried many many times going on the Canadian Netflix site but every single time it takes me to default page and keeps telling me I need a valid US adress. But once i was at my friend’s house and it was working perfectly fine. And one more thing. is there any way to use a TD debit card instead of a credit card?

      It seems it may think your IP address is American. I would talk to their support.

      As for payment, you need a credit card, or a credit card backed debit or prepaid card. If your debit card is your plain ATM card with no Visa backing, it won’t work.

    Is Netflix Canada down right now?
    I have been trying to log on to Netflix Canada for a few hours now, but each time I do I get an error message like this:

    Proxy Error
    The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
    The proxy server could not handle the request GET /Default.

    Reason: Error reading from remote server

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    What does this mean? Will it be fixed soon?

      They probably haven’t finished buying licenses for everything yet.

      Netflix has been running the US for a long time, but when they made the jump to Canada that means re-licensing all of those shows and movies for use in this country as well.

      You can pay more and have 2 movies at once, you know. So then you can have one of your movies and he can have one of his.

      Yes it does, It has every season. I certainly think you should get netflix by the way tons of movies and tv shows

    Is Netflix Canada any good? How often do they change their selections?

    • ANSWER:
      Well… the quality is good, but the selection isn’t anything like that available in the US. Within three or four months, you will probably have gone through most of the movies which you have any interest in. Most of the movies are fairly old, at least three to five years and even that older movies do not have much of a selection. Take something like say epics and you get maybe a dozen movies which I’d argue really aren’t epics. There are new movies every few days, but they often aren’t that new (again several years old at least) and half are foreign, many are TV series, children’s, etc.

      That said, there are a lot of PBS type documentaries and TV series and the starting number of decent movies which you haven’t seen will probably take a few months to get thorough. Some of the TV series are obviously 30+ episodes so if there is something you are interested in… you’ll have something for a while.

      Best recommendation is just to try it… and re-evaluate it in say three months. If you find you aren’t watching much then, you can always drop your subscription.

      every time I try and view ctv or much music’s online video player, I get restricted for attempting to watch it in the us

      Our crappy legislation restricts international licensing on Netflix from several companies in Canada…They’re working on it, but when the floodgates open (I’m estimating 4-5 years at the slow rate of our political BS in Ottawa) there will likely be far better competition than Netflix.

    The phone numbers do not work. And can’t find an online way. The thing keeps signing me out for no reason and it is a hassle to figure out what it’s probem is.

    Will Netflix Canada improve?
    My family just got Netflix, and we are in Canada. However, the selection is extremely poor; there are virtually no popular tv series available, and most of the movies are at least 10 years old. I was just wondering if Netflix would ever be able to improve the selection for us.

      From what I have read, Netflix Canada is busy trying to secure licensing to provide more products to the Canadian site. So yes, more movies are on the way. We are still behind the US service but it will get there sooner than later.

      One thing I found very useful is carefully completing your Netflix Canada “taste profile”. Once I did this I saw many more movies/TV shows magically appear in the main page. Also, try accessing the Netflix Canada website to choose your movies (hit play and stop after the selection starts then it will appear in “recently watched”. The web page is much easier to use to search for movies/TV shows than the Wii/PS3 application.

      netflix is under contract to wait a minimum of 28 days after a movie is released before they are aloud to use it. this is because the people putting out the movies need to make the money from the video stores too. Movies are also released way earlier in the US then they are in canada.
      When you think about it, if you watch two movies a month with your netflix account, you are getting your monies worth. it costs almost 5 bucks to rent a movie from the store plus late charges incured, so no matter how you look at it, new movies or semi older movies, or re runs, watching 2 movies a month on netflix is a good deal for 8 dollars a month.

      Yes, its down. Imagine that…quality of Netflix service is also down. Have you noticed the lack of updated movies? and when they do update, they are ancient movies, or B rated movies? sorry…just venting.

    When is Community Season two coming to Netflix Canada?

      since the season is not scheduled to end until May 12th, the DVD release can’t happen until sometime after that. they usually release shows on DVD about a week or two before it scheduled to return to the regular schedule. that means it probably won’t be available before August or September of 2011. as of now, they have not released the date of the DVD release.

      Don’t join just yet, wait until they put better shows and movies on. The current selection is terrible.
