   Can I get a job at Netflix?
   I’m 17 currently and was wondering if Netflix had any jobs for hig schoolers or summer jobs that I could do. I thought maybe there would be some people who do similar tasks like at mail places where you have to move things around put movies in order or stuff like that. I’m going to be a Senior in high school, if that makes a difference. I’m pretty sure Netflix has a location near me, not sure where EXACTLY, but somewhere in town.

2. QUESTION:
   How do Netflix pop-ups get past pop-up blocker software?
   My pop-up blocker does a great job with one exception. Netflix pop-ups always make it through. Does Netflix pay-off the pop-up blocker software people to let their stuff through or ?????

   • ANSWER:
     What browser?
     One possible reason is the ‘flash’ cookie, which is not handled in the same manner as ‘normal’ cookies.
     To my knowledge, only Firefox, with ‘Better Privacy’ add-on controls these pests.
     Might help to turn off 3rd party cookies (look in ‘Privacy’).

     And yes, there are conspiracies and alliances that bar non-affiliated ads, yet permit ‘advertising partners’ or ‘trusted associates’ (or similar soft terms) to serve ads, but I’m not sure about Netflix specifically.
     It’s part of the wave of greed sweeping the Internet.

     When ever you install anything new, always check the “Privacy” section of the EULA or ToS for these hidden ‘gotchas’.

3. QUESTION:
   What is a light weight linux distro capable of running Netflix and Hulu video?
   I have an old Dell Pentium4 2.4 Ghz with 1GB RAM that I would like to use for watching Hulu and Netflix videos on the TV. It does a decent job under XP, but sometimes the performance lags a bit and the video gets choppy.

   Any ideas what might work better?

   • ANSWER:
     WattOS looks promising as a lightweight Ubuntu. Hulu should work fine on any Linux distro that has Adobe flash installed. Netflix online video doesn’t work yet on Linux, even though Moonlight will work with many Silverlight based websites, it doesn’t support the Silverlight DRM that Netflix uses.

4. QUESTION:
   Is Netflix a greedy corporation that is stealing from the American people? How would you argue against this?
   I like Netflix, but a friend of mine said “Screw netflix, theyre just another greedy corporation stealing from the american people. Lets see some job growth to accompany that 60% price hike. Oh thats right you dont need to, your an online company that doesnt need to answer to anyone as long as you keep your customer help line understaffed.”

   I’m asking for advice on a good, intelligent response?

     all the other big hitters like blockbuster ran out of business so since netflix is the only one left they can charge extra because there’s nothing else to use, at least in my area.

   What jobs would come back if we got rid of computers?
   Like for example- Video rental places like ‘Hollywood videos’ would come back because we dont have netflix and all that stuff. and Post offices would be more busy because there would be no emails.

   Best Buy and NetFlix new management technique – No Working Hours – how does it work?

   I saw in a couple of news article about Best Buy and NetFlix new management technique where employees do not have set time of work but all they have to do is completing the job on time. So my question is, how do they decide how much job need to be completed if there is no set of working hours?

     they pay by the work load
     as long as it is done before the alotted time they pay the employee
     if it is late, the pay is reduced
     for example, a standard work load(say, 30 dvds processed) is
     a user does 5 work loads before 3 pm, they earn , if they do them by 5 pm, they only make
     however some people can do ALOT more work in the same time as another person, so they make more money in the same time because they could complete 10 work loads, make sence?

     just looked more into it, you evedently can leave and come as you please as long as the work gets done…even sleep on the job if you need to…, hm, i should get a job at best buy…

    why does netflix have to ruin my life?
    okay, i have a shared computer, and my uncle and mom always want to watch netflix, but what sucks SO much about it that the video plays for like 4 minutes then takes like 15 minutes to buffer for another 4 minutes and they don’t mind??? is there ANY way that you can like block netflix from my computer without showing any signs its being blocked, it just refuses to let the computer open up netflix because if it shows something like please enter this code they will know and lock me outside for a week but in logic, is there a way to destroy netflix because its horrible!!!!       You can pause a movie and let it load a while before playing it and it shouldn’t have to stop and buffer.

13. QUESTION:
    Can I run Netflix during Plamsa TV break in?
    I am a proud new owner of a Panasonic Viera 50″ plasma. I know that I should break it in for at least 100 hours, at 50 contrast and 50 brightness but am a little upset by the narrow choices of watching media. I refuse to play any sort of games, or watch any channels due to static images, even transparent logos most channels use. I can’t watch most Blu Ray discs because of the widescreen formats used. I was really counting on Netflix to be my saving grace, but most shows on Netflix it seems contain vertical black bars. I tried dirty jobs, but upon very close inspection, about 1/3 of an inch was black bar at the top, and Netflix won’t let me change my aspect ratios. Is there any way to change my aspect ratios while in Netflix? Also, am I being too protective of my new TV? I am at the point that I waste the first 5 minutes of every movie, ensuring there is no static black bar on any side.
    Well is there any way to force Netflix into full screen on my Viera? Or can I only watch it after break-in?

    What do you think of my Netflix commercial?
    Hello everyone, my name is Michael Rees. I am 15 years old and found a contest to make a commercial for Netflix. The commercial had to emphasize the fact that you can instantly stream movies and TV shows straight to your Netflix device. I wrote, directed, shot, and edited this short commercial in just one afternoon. My cousin Ryan, who is 14, handled sound and other various key jobs to pull this one off.

    We used three point lighting for all of the shots of the husband. And as for the grocery store footage goes…that was all rushed big time. Mainly because we didn’t have permission . No lighting was used other than just the store’s lights for that scene.

15. QUESTION:
    Summer jobs that pay decently well?
    I worked at Fed Ex before at a package distribution thing (load and unload packages, etc)
    It was a pretty physically involved job (sweaty and tiring) and the hours were early (4-9am) but it paid 11.50++ an hour and didn’t ruin my day

    I don’t know if I’ll be able to get that job again, though, this year
    I know I can get a job at the movie theater for the summer, but I don’t think they will give me the kind of hours I am looking for, so I was wondering if I could find either another job instead or to go with it. Plus, it only pays 7.15/hr

    I saw someone asked easlier about working at NetFlix putting discs into envelopes and said it paid over 10/hr. I don’t think I would mind that work at all, but would definitely enjoy that extra /hr over a minimum wage job

    Any ideas of jobs like these I could look in to? (Like less desirable, but pay better (weird hours, weird work, etc))

      Caddy at the local golf course. You are outdoors and walking around. No stress. You go home with money in your pocket every day. Offer to caddy for the club pro and go with him to tournaments.

17. QUESTION:
    Should I add this previous job to job applications?
    I worked for Spherion for a month and a half. It was a job inspecting cd’s for Netflix. I quit because the hours I had to work were horrible (2AM-6AM). Would it look good that I only worked for that period of time?
    That was my first job. And I have no other experience other than working with my uncle in his restaurant. Also for a short time.

      I might just leave it off since it was such a short time. It may do more harm than good. If leaving it off is going to cause an uncomfortable hole in your resume then go ahead and add it, but if there is already a gapping hole there anyhow, then don’t worry about it.

    What is the cheapest company to use for mobile broadband for my laptop?
    I don’t want my company to see my web activity. I wan’t to get a usb mobile broadband unit. I will be using the service at least 6 hours a day. Watching netflix, and downloading other movies to pass time. My job has a lot of downtime and I need some entertainment. I know some companies give the unit free with a service plan, what do they ususally cost. I don’t want any restrictions on how much I can use it. Totally Unlimited!

    Is there any notable Health Risks associated with plasma donation services?
    I’m a university student and don’t have a job at the moment, and to offset small expenses like Netflix and the occasional fast food I’m considering donating plasma at a nearby Biolife. Apparently the plasma goes to a good cause (I already donate blood to the Red Cross, but that’s for free), and the money would be nice, but for some reason my mom is uncomfortable with the process. Rather than donating blood where you fill a bag and that’s the end of it, your blood is put back in your body.

    Is she being paranoid? Or is there really a good reason to skip donating plasma?

      Donating plasma is a good idea for extra cash. My now husband used to do it alot. And the only thing that he has suffered from is a needle mark on his foreman. ( He isn’t nor was he ever a druggie.) It totally safe. Your Mom should not worry about it.They have to filter the plasma so a machine separates the plasma and blood form each other and fat also get taken out of the blood before it is put back into the body. You just have to watch, because after you donate the plasma and they put your blood back in you. It can make you sick to our stomach, light headed and have a metallic taste in your mouth.       If you are an accomplished typist – word processor and have recently visited your local city college or university librarian, you can apply as a “certified” graduate typist, earning between .50 to .00 per page for a master or doctoral thesis. The librarian will provide you with a sample of the typing template (i.e., margin settings, font selection, page set up, etc.) in order to complete these projects using Microsoft Word. An average weekend income is about 0-0 for two days work.

    Awesome movies to watch? (pref on Netflix)?
    I’m a movie person and I was wondering if anyone had any movie suggestions for me… So just post some answers with movies you liked, movies you think I would like, or something along those lines.

    A few movies I can remember off the top of my head:

    “Keane” was an awesome movie, gave it 5 stars. It was a really different movie that kept me on edge the whole time… I think it’s one of the few movies that could make a grown man cry.

    “Felon” was an awesome movie too, I gave it 5 stars because it conveys an awesome message and it was fun to watch.

    “Inception” was great in my opinion. I enjoyed every part of it and especially the end. It left me wondering which I liked… But it was a different kind of wondering, not the wondering that you get when the movie was just crap and didn’t make sense.

    “Zombieland” was great. Not much else I can say. The cast made the movie for me and I’d probably watch any movie with any of those people in it.

    “Law Abiding Citizen” was awesome.

    I also enjoyed District 9 and 2012 but they’re nowhere near my favorites.

    Those are a few movies I really enjoyed. I like anything that conveys a strong message, hits a controversial subject, or sometimes unique tearjerkers. Based on my choices, can anyone suggest other movies I’d like? Netflix doesn’t do a great job when it comes to suggesting movies for me.

    Oh, and I’ll literally watch anything that Jason Statham is in.

    What is the name of this movie that had puerto rican actors in it?
    It was this movie i got on netflix i think it was an independent movie i’m not sure, anyways it started out with some boy having a party he was with this girl on the train and 2 guys jumped them for their money.     Should I buy a new laptop or a smartphone?
    I really want a new laptop with a 17′ screen. But, my job as a driver leaves a lot of time sitting in a car waiting around. Would a phone with web access and a netflix app be a better choice? Paying extra money every month for a laptop wireless card is not an option right now.

      definitely go for the smart phone, when I’m on the go yes its nice to have my laptop but its a pain in the arse to assemble and dissassemble it when I’m in a hurry so for example I’m on the go right now with no wifi spots in range so I’m typing this from an Iphone right now its much easier and faster and even with no wifi hotspots I can answer your question, if I had my laptop I would have to wait for the next hotspot which from here would take about a half hour. So there’s my answer

    Can i get a netflix refund?
    So I had my account on hold for a few months and forgot that the hold was up at the beginning of this month (yesterday.) so they took the money out of my account, problem is I just lost a job and don’t have the money at the moment.. do you think i’d be able to call them up and get a refund? I haven’t had any movies shipped yet.

    It appears that the speculations about Amazon’s plans to enter the DVD rental by mail business are changing every month … first it was thought Amazon would enter the market on their own, and job postings to that effect were cited as corraborating evidence. Then BusinessWeek reported that Amazon was in talks to partner with either BlockBuster or NetFlix. Recently a rumor ciculated about a /share Amazon offer to buy NetFlix. And this week Variety Magazine reports that Amazon will start a movie download service …

    Opinions anyone?

    • ANSWER:
      It’s nice to have other options in case customer service declines. But I’ve been with netflix for 4 years, and they’ve been great so far!

      I don’t view Blockbuster as an option, because I can’t stand ‘em.

    Economy is suffering badly and already there has been some talk going on about Depression. What actions/precautions it has caused you or your family to take? Here are some of the things which I did recently:

      I sold all two years ago(expected crash back then) – bought new car for cash new appliances for cash and home with very small mortgage – no debt or low debt only way to go – have no cards no loans and you can’t get hurt too much!

    I don’t have a netflix account, as I am only 16. My parents can’t afford the extra 17 dollars a month or whatever it is, because mom just got a job as a teacher so we’re kinda low on money right now. Microsoft just released an xbox update, and now anyone with xbox live gold and netflix can stream movies on their xbox. It doesn’t cost anything extra on a netflix account, you just have to add the xbox onto the account. Is anyone with netflix willing to help me out?

    netflix and gamefly question?
    If i do the free trial for these businesses what hapens when they run out and i dont have money to start a real subscription.. the reason i ask this is a start a job on friday and am not sure if i get my first pay check in a week or two weeks.

    So i would like to know if my account could just go inactive and i restart it when i get payed or will they delete my account and i have start a new one because in the case of netflix i would like to use it on my xbox360 and it gives you code to redeem in netflix to allow me to download to that gamertag and i dont wanna have to use that one time code and have it do away cause my free trial ended and i hadnt yet got my pay check

      What actually happens is much worse. They will withdraw the money from your account even if you don’t have the money, and you will go into the negatives. Depending on your bank, you’re likely to end up being charged – IN ADDITION for overdrawing.

    Netflix vs Apple TV, and then if Netflix – Roku media player vs. Tivo HD Recorder?
    I am about to start traveling with my job where I relocate every few months. That being said, I’m not sure what my cable situation will be from location to location or my TV situation. Most likely I will have at least a TV, and I will have my laptop where I will be able to get internet access. I like the Netflix idea but to keep changing my address every couple months may be annoying, which is why I liked the possibility of the streaming. I am debating between the Roku Media player and the TiVo HD Digital recorder. I believe both also work with Amazon video on demand as well. Which player would be better for my situation? I would greatly appreciate it if you were able to break down what each media player is capable of; movies vs tv shows, current, past? How movies and tv shows are downloaded – whether only to the device or to/from computer? Cable connection needed or not needed? Also, with the Tivo, is there a monthly charge?

    Or would the Apple TV just be a better idea all together?

      I would get the tivo hd since you can record hdtv shows from a antenna for free.

      also tivo does have free music videos from music choice and live365 internet radio and youtube.

      it also has rhapsody with 8 million songs but its not free. But it sounds very good and you play any of the 8 million songs and make a playlist. its better then itunes.

      oops it also has amazon.com on demand has 20,000 movies about 500 of them are in hd there adding more hd stuff everyday.

    Is Netflix all its cracked up to be?
    I just signed up for Netflix, I’m a single Mom, with 3 kids. I was laid off and my new job pays me less, so I needed to find a way to cut down on my bills and decided to cut off the Cable and go with Netflix, its only .99 a month and I can still watch my fav. Dexter, My kids fav is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Untill I found out, Dexter is all the old seasons. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is only available with the upgrade. Meaning .99/mo. But when I up graded I found out Dexter season 5 and MMC is only available on DVD.

    It’s better than nothing and we have a realy wide selection of realy good shows and it is within my budget so we will make due. But its not what I thought it was

      Well Netflix Instant isn’t meant to have everything even though it does have a lot it cant have everything you are looking for and if you really want something you can just order the DVD and get it in the mail. So if you’re talking about the instant streaming then yeah it doesn’t have everything it does have a fair amount though and i am sure you can find other programs based on the feature netflix has where you can rate movies you’ve seen and get suggestions of “movies you’ll love”

    Ok i want to sign up, but my account is a “kid account” (yeah when i first made it, i put my real birth info in, and it makes me 17, also i dont have a debit/credit card in my name, i just have Comdata from my job).       The customer service phone number for Netflix, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is1-888-NETFLIX (638-3549). Maybe they can direct your call to personnel. When calling this number, callers will find a standard Interactive voice response system and will have an option to speak to a representative if automated options are not sufficient.☺

    how can i watch netflix from my acer netbook, on my big flatscreen TV?
    I’ve got an Acer Aspire netbook, and can watch my netflix “watch now” movies on it, but what a pain! it’s only a 10 ” screen. I want to watch the movies on my flatscreen, and thought a USB to USB cable or USB to HDMI cable would do the job. I’m not sure IF it will work, and wondered if anyone has tried this succesfully before I go out and find/buy the right cable.

    • ANSWER:
      I’ve done it by using a VGA cable from my laptop to my 46 in LCD. IF you use HDMI to HDMI that may work as well. Most importantly look at your function (FN) key, then press the numeric key on your keyboard that show’s what appears to be two monitors. Once you have connected the cables, it will then shoot the image over to the other monitor (TV). I hope that helps.

    What’s a good computer for streaming Netflix and YouTube?
    I was just wondering because I watch a lot of media for my job and right now I have a iMac g5 and as you may know, g5 processor is kind of behind in the times, but I would like to keep my iMac. So, I’m looking for a pretty cheap solution, I do need it to be windows because I would like to run some programs that are only for windows and preferablely a laptop (even a netbook) because I already have an all-in-one. I just put Netflix and YouTube up there as examples, I would like it to stream generally popular media (I.e., crackle, Netflix). I really could not do with another computer that streams laggy videos.

    Dropping cable, using alternative system ( PS3 and Playon) for movies and tv (Netflix & Hulu)?
    I am very confused about this whole process. We recently for financial reasons ditched cable tv to do netflix and Hulu on a player on our tv< did a huge amount of research on different options, settled on PS3 as the best operating system for the job, and have been having lots of trouble since. Days of trouble actually. Netflixs is not a problem by itself through the PS3, but then we are trying different options to get our TV needs (more then what Netflix offers). We started by trying out Playon. It seems to have an introductory package where you can try different sites forst before buying. But it's pretty flakey so far, showing up when it wants to, and not loading the files (programs) into the files on the screen. Supposedly some sites and individuals say that you need PS3 Plus to have these sites (such as Hulu), and others say you don't. Some say that you have to have Hulu Plus to watch Hulu, but some say that going through Playon trial edition, you don't. Also the PS3 says that it doesn't accept Explorer 6, but we have Explorer 7, but it's still giving us the error message. Then I read the answer here and it says you need a adobe upgrade, but that only comes with a firmware update. Is the Hulu or PS Plus where you get the upgrade? Is all this more trouble then it's worth? Should I just go with a Roku? Just when I think I've done alot of research, I find I am clueless. Argg!

    OK, well let me ask you then, is one better then the other (meaning a Bluray player vs a Roku - other then the fact that the Bluray plays discs)? Which are going to have more features in the future so that what I buy is not outdated six months from now? The reason I went with the PS3 is that it seemed like the one which would keep growing as time went on. These other machines seemed somewhat limited. I wanted to go with the Logitech Revue, until I found that I needed cable service in order to use it (defeated the whole idea). Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

      Prices of blu ray players that connect to the internet have come down so purchase one and use Netflix for the streaming movies and get one in the mail for under a month. Nothing on the internet is free anymore. If you do a search for live internet tv, you will find many sites but most want a subscription.
      I would also look into an outdoor antenna and hope that it will bring in the major channels like cbs, nbc, fox and abc. At least it will be free

    Yeah, so pretty much my dad has been going through some…job trouble and we canceled our cable to save a bit of cash. However, my aunt works for netflix and we get amazing deals on monthly rates.

    Pretty much, what are some good moves? Mostly comedy and action, no drama or…romance.

    The middle class is being wiped out.
    People must now at least have a 4yr degree and college tuition has dramatically soared preventing many kids/adults from attending. Most colleges increase their tuition by a minimum of 7% per year creating an exponential increase. The average college graduate is at least 15,000 in debt with student loans.
    How can a service based economy support a population of over 300 million when most of the service industry itself will become sourced out and hollowed out due to the pressures of ever increasing competition?

      Well professor…as you no doubt know the labor unions and multinational corporations are working above the level of sovereign national borders to create parity of wages and production worldwide and then off shore outsourcing won’t be necessary as wages worldwide will be the same the higher level degree will not be required to do service level jobs. A serfs the worlds population will again subjugated to economic slavery and the brutal revolutions will again begin to swing the pendulum back toward personal freedoms.

      Life is cyclical and history repeats its self.

    what tv show might my girlfriend like?
    I am searching Netflix for a show to watch with my girlfriend when she gets home from her job as a nurse. Her favorite shows are Modern Family, Psych, 30 Rock, The Office, Party Down, and other comedies of that nature. We’ve already watched all of those, and some others aren’t available on Netflix. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, except for a Seth MacFarlane show, because those shows are the opposite of funny.

    Does anyone think that the technology we have today is the cause of job loses?
    Yesterday I realized this. Ex.
    Ever since new products such as the amazon kindle came out, book stores has been going out of business, such as borders.
    Or movie stores like Blockbuster is shutting down since there are new ways to order movies, like Netflix.

    And that’s just a few. I’d rather go out to stores than to stay at home for a long time. It’s just my opinion.

      100% yes….technology is the cause of many job losses. one example …. there used to be rooms full of typists & secretaries….and then along came a computer – and you only needed one person to operate it….everybody else was excess & so no longer needed.

    Netflix instant stream q?
    Is there a site that shows when they add a new show to instant stream> the main site doesnt do a great job of showing you whats newly added.. i keep finding shows on instant stream after i ordered it in the mail lol… so does anyone know of a site that tracks that

      Just where it has instant at the top…remember to look for the blue button before you have dvds sent out to you. blue means you can watch right away. red add button means dvd only. Hope that helps.
