1. QUESTION:
   what time of day do new netflix releases become available to stream?
   a movie i want to watch on netflix was supposed to be streamable starting today, but it’s almost four hours into the day and it’s not available yet. what time of day do new things become available to stream?

   • ANSWER:
     Almost all new movies that I know of are not streamable for exactly that reason, they’re new. It always takes a while for them to become available for streaming. Although there are a lot of movies that are ten -fifteen tears old and are still not available.

2. QUESTION:
   How to get new releases on Netflix sooner?
   I find it really frustrating that I often find new releases on DVD are often “Long Wait” or “Very Long Wait”. I’ve tried moving DVDs up in my queue as soon as they have a release date up but it never seems to work.

   Then again, I have been a long time customer and I remember hearing that Netflix will sometimes purposely slow the queues of long-time or infrequent users.

   • ANSWER:
     i have netflix too… and it happens to me too. But, what may help is put a DVD on before you know its going out on DVD but isnt yet and add it to your qeue and it may be faster. NO promises but it may work.

   all of the new movies aren’t available when they are released on dvd. the book of eli came out last week but it says it’s not available until next week. hot tub time machine comes out this tuesday but on netflix it says july 27th…

   • ANSWER:
     28 day delay.

4. QUESTION:
   How long does it usually take to get new releases from Netflix?
   Everytime I add a new release it either says long wait or very long wait. How long does it usually take after it’s gone to dvd?

   • ANSWER:
     It literally is luck of the draw. If you placed it in your queue early enough and the distribution site that gets your last set of return discs has a copy and no one else has priority (requested it earlier) than you, it’s yours. I’ve never had a significant problem with it.

5. QUESTION:
   Are the instant watch movies on netflix new releases? ?
   I’ve heard mixed reviews on the selection.

   • ANSWER:
     Depends on what you mean by “new releases.” How new? Shutter Island is currently available, so is Alice in Wonderland (2010). Netflix has limits on what it can include in Instant Watch and how long they have to wait until they can put movies there.

6. QUESTION:
   How come when I go to Netflix under New Releases it’s the same movies there week after week?
   They use to list all new releases that were coming out that week and they would list them by catagroy. Now I get a “popular new releases” which have not changed in over a month… I want to know all the new movies coming out the curent week. Any ideas?

   • ANSWER:
     Apparently, Netflix has eliminated the “more new releases” page. I was just noticing this myself recently. It now takes dozens of clicks to see the same number of movies that used to be displayed on a single page. Netflix is probably counting on the fact that users will select a movie from the first couple of pages and steering customers toward those.

   When does netflix get new releases for shipping on DVD AND BLU RAY?
   Title.

   • ANSWER:
     The answer is “it depends”.

     Sony was restricting the number of copies being sold to Netflix and some rental stores to try and force consumers to buy the disks if they wanted to see the new releases.

     A few months ago we started seeing “Only at Blockbuster” where titles were NOT being sold to Netflix or RedBox or even Cable or Sat On-Demand to encourage people to shop at BlockBuster. The titles would show up to Netflix 2 weeks or so after the shelf date.

     So games are being played and there are a lot of behind-the-scenes deals going on.

8. QUESTION:
   How long does it take Netflix to put new releases online?
   I want to watch a movie on Netflix online but I don’t think that they have it on yet. How long does it take before they put it online? I don’t want to have it delivered by mail, though. Thanks.

   • ANSWER:
     It takes 30 days for them to get it on DVD. And for instant queue, they get it whenever they can make a deal with the movie company for a price they have to pay to get the rights to put it up on their instant queue

9. QUESTION:
   How long does it take Netflix to get new releases?
   I want to get some people together to watch the new Studio Ghibli movie, Ponyo, and I’m wondering when they will get it.

   • ANSWER:
     Often they get them in several days before and ship them the night before the announced release date. Several times I have had new release disks come in on the day of their release and once I got it the day before the official release.
     That might not happen if the film is very popular and has a waiting list on it.

    Netflix New Releases…?
    Until recently, Netflix had a series of pages where one could see a simple list of the new releases, movies releasing this week, and a now on dvd section. They made a change and now have a much harder to use and understand system. Do they still offer the simple list and I have simply been unable to find it?

    • ANSWER:
      I’ve been having the same problem. If there is a page like that I haven’t been able to find it either. It sucks now because you can’t find the movies that have just been released. We should complain to them and see if they’ll change it back.

    Netflix New Releases page bettter or worse than before?
    I don’t know about you, but I found the way they presented the New Releases page before a lot better than the new face lift they gave it.

    Worst of all they did’nt give their users any way to configure it to how they like it. I would not mind as much as if they let me display the categories I perfer.

    What do you think? Is the new, New Release page better or worse than before?

      I hate the new format. One thing I liked about the old way was that you could also look at all the stuff coming out in a specific week and make your choices from there. I hate having to research what movies come out that week. I don’t care if that’s considered lazy.

    How “recent” are NETFLIX’s new releases?
    I just signed up for the free trial for Netflix and I’m disappointed in the new releases. They don’t have the most recent DVD releases. Also, what day do they update their new releases?

      They update their new releases when the DVD is released. Don’t expect something that was in theaters 1 month ago to be on Netflix for another 3 months or so.

    Do more movies,new releases, unlock after Netflix 30 Day Trial?
    I heard some people at work today talking about Netflix and how with the Free Trial you don’t have access to all movies, but after the trial new releases unlock every tuesday. Is this true?

      The free trial Netflix is the same Netflix you would get as a member.

      I did the free trial and have been a member for over a year and a half.

      I highly recommend it.

    Does Netflix have new releases?
    Does anyone know if the have new releases? For example, the new Final Destination comes out tuesday on dvd in stores, will Netflix have it available tuesday? Thanks!

      yes they realease them smae day as everyone else but just because you put it on your order list doesn’t mean you will get it that day. you will have to wait awhile. if it’s a popular movie it could be a month before you get it. your better off getting new releases from blockbuster or red box or something like that

      When I order a new relese I often get it a few days ahead of the “in store” dates. They have most of the new movies before they can be bought.

    Netflix on Xbox 360, how is the selection of new releases?
    I’m thinking of switching from Blockbuster to Netflix mostly because you can stream to my 360. Are there lots of new releases available? I’ve heard it takes forever to get new movies sent in the mail because you’re on the waiting list, is this true?

    • ANSWER:
      I am very happy with Netflix. I don’t always go for the new movies, though. They have tons of movies and I get the . a month package where I can pick one dvd at a time but then stream as many instant movies as I want. Not all movies are available online or through streaming though.
      I do sometimes wish that I could go to a physical Netflix store to pick out some movies that I can’t get from streaming and I didn’t feel like waiting for through the mail.
      So, with Blockbuster having that feature, if you use that a lot, you may miss that.
      But with all the movies I’ve put in my dvd selections to be mailed out, so far only one said that there would be a long wait. But like I said, I don’t pick too many new movies.

    How can I have new release dvd’s delivered on the date they are released by Netflix?
    I am a Netflix subscriber. New DVD movies release every Tuesday; however, because they come through the mail, I haven’t been able to have a new release arrive on the DATE that it releases. Is there a way to have it work this way???

    • ANSWER:
      Due to the fact that they can’t release it prior to Tuesday and mail is unreliable, they likely will not ship the DVD until the Tuesday it is released, so you could get it Wednesday. (I have a friend who did it; she mailed her movie back so that it would arrive on Monday, on Tuesday the new release was processed and mailed, and it was at home on Wednesday.)

    Why doesn’t Netflix advertise GOOD new releases?
    For instance, each time I check the new releases section, Netflix only advertises a small cross section of new releases that they deem to be ‘popular.’ I had to search for Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, A Serious Man, etc. Does Netflix not have a moderator for this? Right now, when I click to ‘see all’ new releases, the titles they give me are not necessarily new, but more like a month to six months old (as of 2/13/2010, the ‘new releases’ advertised when I pull up my account are The Soloist, Valkyrie, The Goods, Frost/Nixon, and Duplicity). These movies are hardly “new” anymore. And when I look at the “Released in the previous… week, month, three months, etc.,” there are never any movies I want to watch. This frustrates the hell out of me. Is there a simple way to just look at EVERY new release? I don’t care whether they might not be available, or that there may be a long wait… and why don’t they advertise upcoming new releases? I realize that you can “save” upcoming titles, but I’d rather not have to look for them. Is Netflix just a bad service, after all?

    How come netflix doesn’t show current new releases (ie Sex & the City or Iron Man) when you go to the website?
    I had to look them up individually…how come their not just there on the new release page?

    • ANSWER:
      I think they like to promote less popular titles, make it harder to find the obvious new ones. But it’s pretty annoying.

      I have to say that GreenCine is much better about this. They have an updated list of new and coming releases posted every week on the Central part of their site, as well as listing a ton of the new releases on their home page. Even if they know that people won’t all be able to get these right away they’re more upfront about it and it’s easier to queue up the coming releases in advance this way, too. See links.

    Netflix new movies with long wait even as new releases?
    has anyone noticed that certain movies on netflix as soon as they come out have very long waits? I always have enough space on my netflix to get new movies the day they come out. Take yesterday for example.. I had Transformers and 2 other new releases on my list as well as Grindhouse. I got all three other movies and not Grindhouse. This has happened in the past with such movies as Hannibal Rising and Bobby but rarely ever happens with other ones. I usually get all the new releases the day they come out…always. Has anyone else ever noticed this or have an explanation?

      it all depends on when you requested the movie and how many people requested the same movie, i always do a search of a movie months in advance before it ever comes out then save it in my queue and then some times i still have to wait, it all depends on how popular the movie is and how fast you get it in your queue, netflix is on a first come first server bases, hope that clears things up for you

    does blockbuster have newer releases than netflix?
    I have Netflix on my wii and it has barely (if any) new releases. I would like to know (A.) Can i use Blockbuster through my wii. (B.) Does Blockbuster have a better service than Netflix.

      blockbuster is a store… you walk in and pick up the movies
      netflix is on a delay for releasing new movies – it takes at least 3-4 weeks for them to pop up

    NetFlix will not send me all new releases anymore, scamming me?
    I know the hustle to get new releases on netflix, you send your dvds back on monday, they get them on new release tuesday and ship out the new releases at the top of your que. If you don’t do it this way you could end up waiting for months.

    Now I am on the 3 a month plan, now when i put 3 new releases coming out on the same day, they choose to only send me one and 2 others from lower on my que. They used to never do this? Is this because I have a good record of returning dvds rather quickly and they want to rip me off since im the perfect customer???? anyone experiance this?

      They’re throttling you. They do this to people that rent heavily and know how to work the system. It’s not very nice of them to do it, but they do.

      The mail service is still on and will be for more than a year.

      And you probably will be able to watch newly released movies instantly as they come out on DVD in the future of Netflix once it switches to streaming only.

      And I actually think it’s not such a bad idea, it’s just bad for people without Xbox, Wii, PS3, etc.

      That’s why I canceled my account, in the beginning right away then all of a sudden they started taking forever.

    How long does it take for New Releases to make it from DVD to streaming in Netflix?
    Is there an average time, or does it vary a lot?

      I don’t believe there is any set time. I know that Netflix gets new releases approximately 30 days after other sites. And I’ve seen some of those “new releases” go directly to streaming, but not all of them do. I think it has a lot to do with the popularity of the film in question. I would think they would want to wait to put popular movies on streaming if for no other reason than to keep your business longer. That way, you stick around to see if it will go to streaming, or you’ll still have to wait around to receive it in the mail. Either way, if the movie is a blockbuster, or is expected to be in high demand, they normally wait to stream it as far as what I’ve seen. I’ve had Netflix for about a year….so I guess their little method works lol.

    I’ve just noticed something now… the Tooth Fairy with the rock won’t be released till June, I know I probably wouldn’t get it till then. Just gets me, it’s in stores and available to rent?       They make it abundantly clear that they don’t get the new releases for 4 weeks after the releaser for Warner Brothers. They did this so the production company to help boost their sales of DVDs and BluRays. Its only a month. If you like the movie so much that you can’t wait 28 days then you mgiht just want to buy the movie.

    Netflix New Release Dates?
    First off, let me say I currently have my subscription to Blockbuster’s package and I have been satisfied for a couple years now. But I am now considering making the switch to Netflix since they have the streaming through the Wii. I have a co-worker that is doing this and says she is satisfied with it. My only concern is, on my Blockbuster account, the new release Blu-ray movies are ALWAYS on either a short to very long wait. There has been a few that I have never seen available in months. So I usually end up getting my new releases with my in-store exchange. If you’re not familiar with Blockbuster, you can either send your movies back through the mail or return them at the store. When you return them to the store you get that number of free in-store rentals.

    Anyway, when checking new releases on Netflix’s website to see how long their waits are (since there is no in-store to get them from and they usually don’t stream new releases), we noticed Avatar is not even available to rent until 05/20. Even though this movie came out to the stores and blockbuster last week. My question is, how many of these new releases do not get released through Netflix until a month after everyone else gets it? I don’t know if I can live with that.

    • ANSWER:
      It just changed recently, since Blockbuster is dying, they inked a deal with a studio (maybe paramount?) to get certain movies earlier, where as Netflix decided to get the movies later, but keep the cost low. Check out hackingnetflix.com for more information.

      You will not have the same thing as going into a blockbuster to switch out movies. If you honestly cannot wait 2 weeks, then maybe Netflix is not for you.

      My solution, is that I bought a roku box, to stream netflix instant watch to my TV, and it also has amazon.com on demand. If there is a movie i simply MUST SEE, then I will rent it for on amazon vod. Best of both worlds.

      As a general rule, no. Netflix selects certain movies and TV shows to be watched instantly and normally they don’t include new releases. There are a few exceptions though, like The Ugly Truth is currently available for instant viewing and it is a fairly new release.

    Are you able to stream new release through Netflix, or are the movies still mostly old ones?
    I’m considering renewing my account because of the xbox 360 update, but if the movies are still old and minimal choices, I might as well not.

      Yea sometimes you get new releases now but not rite away. If you have the account why not just check out what they have. They have a pretty big selection now.

    I was considering buying the Roku, but am not quite sure what movies are available. Are all the movies available or is it only select titles.       The “Watch Instantly” list that you see in your Netflix account – is the EXACT same list of movies you can stream to a Roku box. There are some new releases in there, and the list is growing continually.

      I was the same way – I avoided the Watch Instantly list – until I bought the Roku. Now I would say I find a lot of neat things to watch on it, and having it tied to the TV is a plus over watching them on a PC. I’m very happy with the Roku and find it provides some great content while I am waiting for my next DVD’s.

    Why doesnt Netflix show the newest releases?
    They have a list of Popular New Releases, but it doesnt show real new releases, only things that have released in the past several months. I have to look up the New Releases on another website, then type in the names to search on Netflix. They are always available on Netflix, but for some reason Netflix just doesnt show or advertise them. Why, am I doing something wrong?

      I have asked myself the same question. I believe they do this because they know that new releases will be the most popular movies which means they will be the least available.

      Go to whatever your format is (DVD, HD, Blu-ray) and look for the ones with the green tags that say “Save”.

      These are your actual upcoming new releases.

      if they make it to pay per view, first, it is because they get money. business is business, profits are profits.

      New release as in new to theatres? No. Very few movies are released on DVD/Pay Per View at the same time as they are released in theatres. I believe there have only been about 5 so far an all have been duds.

      New release as in new on DVD? No. Most movies do not show up on cable or DVD for close to a year after the theatrical release – which is often several months following the DVD release.

      New to cable. Yes. Netflix has partnered with Starz to stream their current catalog of movies. You can currently watch recent movies like National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Ratatouille, Dan in Real Life, The Illusionist, Gone Baby Gone, No Country for Old Men, Meet the Robinsons, Enchanted, Becoming Jane, and others.

    Is there a way to get around Netflix throttling? It is taking over 2 months to get new releases!!?
    I have been a member of Netflix for 4 years. I’ve never had a problem with their services until recently. My problem has just occurred within the past couple of months. I always watch the DVDs and return them within a day or so. I apparently have been put on the “throttling” list because of my quick returns. It is currently taking over two months to get new releases that I put at the top of my queue before the movie even is released. My sister, who doesn’t return the DVDs as quickly as I, can put a new release at the top of her list (which has been on mine for quite awhile) and get it “now”. It is on my list for months as “very long wait”. I have always recommended Netflix to others. I love their large variety of movie titles.

    My question is…is there any way to get around the throttling? I would like to see new releases right away, not months later. Why am I punished for watching and returning quickly? I obvioulsy am not a “valued customer”. What can I do to change this?!
    I deleted my entire queue and have left only 2 or 3 at a time in the queue to see if that would help. The majority of the time I have my movies back my Monday morning and is scanned in. however, as this week due to deleting most of my queue (like older DVDS), Netflix has delayed sending new DVDs all week and now have “will send Friday”, although it keeps changing ever day. It is very frustrating!

      yes! If you make sure your movies are out with the saturday mail, you should recieve the movies at the top of your queve by tuesday.

      I know I read somewhere that the reason why you cannot stream live new releases is due to the distributers not releasing content to be able maximize the distribution of there dvd/blu-ray sales. Unfortunately I can’t remember where I read that from.

      if they will put everything out, they will have a hard time keeping up with the demand, i used to have netflix too, and what i did was find the new release in the stores then search it in the netflix website and usually they have a very long wait…

      Click on the instant play tab – or maybe it ways watch now – and look in the categories that are listed

      First, you should know: The Wii is NOT a High Definition console. It does work, but don’t expect a great picture on a hdtv. If you have a regular tv then don’t worry about it. If you have a hdtv then think about getting a XBox 360 or a blueray player with HDtv capability. Netflix has a lot of HD instant items to choose from.

      Now, your original question: The amount of time it takes for new releases to make it to the instant watch section varies. They must pay for the rights to stream items to numerous viewers. Some movies are on there in about a month-some not yet. Netflix made a deal with a movie studio a few months ago. the agreement was that Netflix wouldn’t rent their new releases until 4 weeks after the release date. In exchange Netflix got the rights to stream a number of older movies. The studio profits because it gets people to buy those new releases instead of renting them from Netflix. And, Netflix got the rights to stream a ton of older movies.

      My wife and I stream tons of stuff, we get three movies at a time, and sometimes she rents locally for items we can’t get from Netflix(very rare).

      Comcast PPV has films the day they come out on DVD.

      I never use Netflix to see recent releases.

      I think that “Avatar” may be an exception to the rule. Save your money, btw: “Avatar?” Not so good.

    I have been a Netflix subscriber for awhile now. And the majority of the time, I have to wait for new release movies. I am wondering how that compares to Blockbuster’s service??     I have never had a problem with Netflix. I am satisfied with the quality of their service. Just not happy about having to wait 1-2 months to see a new release movie half the time.

      Blockbuster is going to have more selection since blockbuster gets some movies 30 days before anyone else can even rent them out. Also nobody I know who has blockbuster online has ever had to wait 1-2 months for a new release! And that’s quite a few ppl. That’s insane. Maybe 1-2 weeks but that’s it. I currently work for blockbuster and none of my customers have ever complained about that, if for some reason you aren’t getting them fast enough then just swap your mailed movie for one in the store for free. Problem solved. I actually have at least 5 ppl who get movies in the mail and don’t ever open them to watch them just so they can swap them out in the store. Since blockbuster’s prices jumped from what they originally were I went back to Netflicks but Netflicks was SO slow so I went back to blockbuster online. Then my mom tried Netflicks and the same thing, super slow and all she wanted was new releases as well but she never mentioned it was taking that long!

    Have a Netflix account and I need to find 2 good new releases for my mom who is 62.

    She likes horror/suspense/drama/historical

    does not like sci fi/comedy

    recent movies she liked were Taken, Grand Torino, Milk, Defiance, Valkyrie.

    Netflix or Blockbuster? We live close to Blockbuster. Want new releases & TV shows. No old movies.?
    We are trying to decide between Blockbuster and Netflix. We will probably go for the 3 at a time plan. Will we get the first in a series of TV shows, or will they be out of order? How about selection? We live in the Bay Area. What’s the delivery time?

      Blockbuster…when they send you a movie you can bring it back to the store for a free rental…im watching the office what i do is get the first two discs and then go back to the store and get the next two for free…not a long wait and you can constantly have a movie…bloockbuster is the way to go…and it takes about a bussiness day to a day and a half if you bring it to the store…if you mail it in time before the mail gets picked up then it will come the next day usually..
