Incredible Movie Deals

Netflix Pricing

Of course, you’ve heard of Netflix, the wonderful service that allows you to rent movies from a DVD catalog literally filled with thousands of titles; and, you’ve probably heard about their service that allows you to hit play on the remote and begin watching a movie immediately without waiting for the movie to actually download (called “streaming” or “video-on-demand”). However, there is no “Adult Netflix” streaming adult movies online–no company affiliated with Netflix anyway), but there are services that are very much like Netflix that deal in online adult entertainment.

The major companies competing in the online adult entertainment marketplace are SugarDVD, WantedList, and BushDVD–these companies were of the first crop of online adult movie renters to take note of Netflix’s success and institute a similar method of getting movies out to their customers.

As far as price and customer satisfaction the best reviews always come out of the SugarDVD crowd. Their service packages start out at around ten dollars and top-out around forty-three for their eight-at-a-time DVD package (which also comes with twenty free video-on-demand minutes). SugarDVD also has the longest period to try their service out for free out of the other online adult entertainment rental companies.

Also, all of these companies work very discreet in the way that they ship the DVDs. They’re packaged very similar to the way that Netflix packages their DVDs, and not even the mailman will know what DVDs you have rented through the service. The mailman probably will think your just getting movies from Netflix anyway and go on about his business.

One of the things people worry about other than discretion a lot is they’re afraid these online companies are going to sell their information out and start receiving junk mail in their mailbox like people get with their online email. With the larger companies this does not happen, they have a reputation to uphold, and a legit business to run. Smaller companies, it might would be a potential worry, but if you choose to go with a smaller company, just do your research.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How does Netflix pricing work? Any hidden fees?
I signed up for “unlimited streaming” to my wii console for .99 a month. Are there any hidden fees I should be aware of? Will the price of .99 still be the same if I watch 30 movies a month vs. 2 movies a month? Or will they charge extra?

I just don’t want any hidden fees.
Thanks everyone. I feel better now =)

    • ANSWER:
The subscription levels are pretty self explanatory. Unless noted, both the DVD and streaming options are unlimited. You pay one flat price per month, regardless of how much – or little – you use the service.

If you live in California, you will also be charged sales tax on top of your subscription which is close to 10% (stupid state taxes…)

    • ANSWER:

  5. QUESTION:
How does netflix price hike work?
I dont have the DVD plan. I just have where you can stream movies only. Are they raising the price for people that have just streaming?

    • ANSWER:
Netflix will now separate DVD and streaming services into two separate plans, each priced at .99. A combo plan will still be available, but at an increased rate of .98 a month.

There will also be a standalone DVD rental plan that lets the user check out two discs at a time for .99 per month. The .99 DVD rental plan will let users check out one title at a time.

  6. QUESTION:
Why are people complaining about the Netflix price hike?
This was bound to happen with the increased demand. .00 a month for unlimited movies and shows is crazy when you consider how expensive cable and/or dish is. Even with the increase (unlimited streaming and DVDs), the price is still a month! That’s over less than my current cable bill! Why are people so upset about this?

    • ANSWER:
agreed. I think the price is reasonable. I watch a lot of movies so it’s worth it to me.

  12. QUESTION:
Is anoyone seriously going to cancel their netflix?
I think the price hike was unjust, they made no improvement to their service and 60% is not due to inflation. Do you think netflix offered great prices and drove their competitors out of business, and then when they’re gone they jack up the prices.

    • ANSWER:
Yes I am. And if anyone thinks about it, we are the boss of netflix, not the other way around, we are the customers and we have the power not them. 100% guaranteed if they lose more than 50% of their subscribers they will regret the price hike and not to mention the competition that is brewing right now between Amazon, Walmart and Redbox all offering streaming which means netflix won’t have the monopoly on the streaming/dvd market. :)

  13. QUESTION:
How to open an online movie & game rental store like netflix.com?
Does anyone know what I would need in order to open a website and store that is similar to Netflix. I would like to rent out regular movies, video games and have a seperate page for adults only to rent x-rated videos. I will offer lower prices than Netflix and the same concept of the whole mail order thing from home.

    • ANSWER:
You first need to own the movie and record catalog, which netflix doesn’t, but their parent company does.

So my friend you are shut down.

  14. QUESTION:
Is it just me or is Netflix making their prices WORSE?
At first, I heard it was .99 a month for a DVD out a time and streaming. Then, they made it to .99.

And on Sept 1 they have other things to change. :(

Are any of you using Netflix? You guys would know what I am talking about right?

    • ANSWER:
7.99 is currently for the watch instant only plan or the new DvD only plan

the programs on streaming have to be licensed and Netflix has to pay to get them licensed

They’re charging us more to help support more watch instant titles. Especially since Starz and Sony wants more money from Netflix

I currently pay 19.99 plus tax for 3 rentals at a time. That will be the new price of 2 rentals at a time when this takes effect

I am disappointed that I’ll have to go down to 2 rentals because of this price change but I understand why they are doing it

  15. QUESTION:

I used my free trial and put my account on hold, intending to sign up for a regular account, but after reading about the ridiculous price gouging, I canceled it.

    • ANSWER:
No. But I am tired of all the ‘very long wait’ attached to movies that I want to see.

  21. QUESTION:
Do we pay tax for Netflix in Illinois?
I heard that Netflix has state tax in “most” states. But does Illinois have it, or is the price for Netflix really .99?

    • ANSWER:
I was never charged tax while living in Illinois two month ago, but am now charged 80c tax for the exact same Netflix subscription in NY.

  22. QUESTION:
What are you doing about the Netflix price increase?
Netflix is selling this as a decrease…I guess because they are thinking people only want one or the other service. I want both, but refuse to pay almost double the cost I am paying now. Obviously I’m not the only one outraged. Netflix’s official blog almost got shut down from inpouring negative comments when they released the new pricing structure. Any ideas for those of us with little budget and SEVERE entertainment addiction?
Okay – I already do Redbox, but here’s the thing – I want what I want, when I want it. The streaming has little to nothing that interests me, but the kids/hubby love it. I get the mail for the Showtime show Dexter. I feel like I am getting the shaft by Netflix!!! If I subscribe to showtime, I will have to pay more, and if I download each season of Dexter from Itunes, it’s like .00 per season. Is there a video swap website out there?

    • ANSWER:
I’m cancelling my subscription and telling all my friends and families to avoid Netflix.

I’ll just buy them, or “borrow” them online. And since I have many movies, and my friends and family do as well, we’ll just borrow them off each other.

  23. QUESTION:
What is Netflix gonna offer with the Price increase ?
I am not complaining. It is still a great service at a more than fair price. What are they gonna offer in addition to the streaming content they already have. I know they are trying to go nose to nose with hulu and vudo.

    • ANSWER:
I think that the email said that they are only going to offer more videos on streaming. Here’s the email that they sent us. You may have been sent this too.

      Dear,

We want to let you know about two important changes to the Netflix service.

      1. The price of your current plan is changing from .99 a month to .99 a month. This new price will be effective with your next billing statement on or after January 2, 2011, and will be referenced in your Membership Details. With your current plan you can both instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies on your computer or TV and receive unlimited DVDs by mail.

      2. We now also offer a new .99 a month plan which lets you instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies on your computer or TV. This plan does not include any DVDs. All the titles you can watch instantly on your current plan are also available on this new plan, and as a reminder, not all titles on DVD are available to watch instantly. This new plan is available immediately – if you’d like to switch to this new plan at any time, simply visit Your Account.

Why the changes? Our selection of TV episodes and movies available to stream has grown dramatically, and as a result most members want us to deliver unlimited movies and TV episodes two ways: streaming instantly over the internet plus DVDs by mail. The price change will allow us to continue to offer the popular plan choice of unlimited TV episodes and movies streaming instantly along with unlimited DVDs. The new plan, which does not include DVDs, is a great option for the increasing number of members who only want to watch instantly. The .99 a month price reflects no DVD shipping costs on this plan.

We hope you’re enjoying great TV shows and movies from Netflix, and that you’ll continue to enjoy Netflix on whichever plan you choose. We realize you have lots of home entertainment options, and we thank you for your business. As always, if you have any questions, please call us at 1-800-715-2146.

  24. QUESTION:
Hulu plus vs netflix, which do you per fer and why?
With the new hike in prices for Netflix I am thinking of going to hulu, but really don’t know much about it. So What do you think? Hulu or Netflix?

    • ANSWER:
Hulu Plus still has ads and a very poor movie selection. Netflix isnt even raising the price for the streaming only package, just for DVDs. Im staying with netflix because they have better shows and tons of good movies with no ads.

  25. QUESTION:
Will Netflix still be worth the cost after the price increase?
Starting September 1 Netflix will be increasing their subscription rates by about 60% Will you keep your current plan? Will you change to a cheaper plan, or close your account?

    • ANSWER:
Will it still be worth it? That’s really up to you. If .98 were the original price, it would still sound reasonable, and I’d get it. I will, however, be canceling my subscription based on principle. They’re basically telling you, “We CAN give you a plan for .99, but we’re choosing to go ahead and screw you over and charge you more.” This isn’t just the economy speaking and they’re passing their bigger costs down to you. They simply got greedy.

  26. QUESTION:
Why are the netflix prices going up?

They have added a dvd option with no streaming which is of course cheaper, but the dvds with streaming has a higher price now then before
3 dvds at a time plus streaming used to be now its
1 dvd used to be now its

    • ANSWER:
Because they can. Even with the big increase, its still by far the best deal on DVD rental.

  27. QUESTION:
what do think about Netflix raising their prices?
We have had them for many many years with no rewards, or any kind of long time customer deals.
Now the price is going up 60%.
I hate these companies that have no customer service. No one to speak your mind to.
What do you think? and don’t tell me” it’s just business…I know that!

    • ANSWER:
Don’t forget this is the second time Netflix raises its prices in a short time period. I voiced my opinion by cancelling by membership. Why on earth would I pay more money to watch crappy streaming movies. We have options, try Blockbuster online or Redbox.

  28. QUESTION:
Im thinking about getting Netflix but I have some questions?
I have a Wii, a computer, and an Ipod touch. Can I get netflix on all three of those? Also how many movies can I get at one time? I looked netflix up and it said the price is 7.99. Is that for everything? Do I have to get all the movies in the mail or can I watch them instantly? Is it just movies? Can I get games from netflix too?
    Is netflix worth the money?
I have the newest generation of Ipod touch.

    • ANSWER:
I have been using netflix since 2007. I have the 3 DVD plan plus all the streaming that I want right now. That plan runs a month. Since the streaming through netflix is getting better over time ( i.e. more devices you can use plus more newer releases) I am using DVD less and less. I am even currently thinking of downgrading my account to the /month plan or even the .99/month one. just because i am not watching as much dvds as I used too.

The .99 plan that you speak is just for streaming movies. No DVDs through the mail. the next plan up (.99) you get all the streaming you can watch thrugh the Wii, Xbox, computer, and some other devices that Im not sure of plus one dvd at a time.

For anyone new that is trying out netflix I recommend the .99/month plan. I have been happy with netflix. There has just been only one time that I was not to happy with them. It is the recent price hike that they did over the last month. My current plan went from a month to and I did not receive any notice about the rate change.

And sorry there is no games that you can rent through netflix. So far the only good one that is out there for game rental is GameFly.com but they are a bit to expensive for me.

  29. QUESTION:
    Will my Netflix prices change?
I currently use netflix on Wii. I don’t pay for the dvd option, just streaming. Will my prices change with the new guidelines? If so, what will I pay instead?
Okay so my prices won’t change from the current .99? Thanks

for both. How many dvds can you BUY for ? How many movies can you get from redbox for ? From Blockbuster? How many movies can you see the theatre for ? What kind of cable package can you get for ?

Yeah, its a price increase at a time when people are still pinching pennies. But this is still a REALLY GREAT DEAL relative to every other form of tv and movie availablility. This won’t affect thier membership in any noticeable way.

  38. QUESTION:
    Netflix Price Debate…?
What do you guys think about the whole Netflix raising their prices thing? Please voice your opinions below.

    • ANSWER:
It makes sense from a business point of view.

Netflix wishes to get out of the DVD-by-mail business altogether at some point, and instead become primarily a streaming content service. The problem with this is that currently their streaming selection isn’t that great. They have been working hard to add more newer, more popular titles to the instant watch this year, but it isn’t easy to do so, and they still have less than 1/4 the content on instant watch as they do on the by mail service. Also, most of their streaming content is older and dated, because that is easier and cheaper to license.

The problem we all have is that we expect to pay money and get what we want. Sure, that seems reasonable, but what you have to realize is that Netflix cannot just pay a single price and get content. Most media companies want a cut of money for every time something is watched by a single person/account. This gets very expensive for a company like Netflix, because then they have to pay the company who owns the license for the title for every time an individual watches it. And on a service in which you can watch anything as many times as you like, people often start and then later restart (technically two viewings) a single title, often show their friends or family, etc. So Netflix is having to pay the company every time it is viewed, while their customers are only paying a relatively low flat rate. It just gets very costly.

And right now the big media companies are winning the struggle, holding out. This is because they are still getting revenue from DVD sales and DVD services like Redbox and other DVD-by-mail services. Here is the order a media company prefers (from low to high): Netflix, RedBox, Blockbuster/Etc., PayPerView, DVD sales. You see, the company gets more money for each option after Netflix, effectively meaning Netflix is their lowest per-product revenue, whereas DVD sales is their highest. They get less money for Netflix. This is why they actually tried very hard to keep companies like BlockBuster in business for a while, and why they have spent lots of moneys in past years getting satellite and cable companies to more heavily advertise PPV. They want as much money per viewing as possible, and Netflix is the lowest. At the moment, they are holding out on Netflix in favor of Redbox, because RB gives them a slightly higher return than Netflix does, and as long as RB is around, they will prefer it over Netflix. A media company is going to be reluctant to hand out their brand new content to be watched as many times with as many people as desired, when they could get more money with a DVD that cost more money for every day you have it.

So basically, Netflix has a lot of resistance to jump over before they can get their way, and in order to get more content, they have to pay media companies more money. Thus, the 60% increase in price. This is how any business works: you want to add more product, you have to spend more money, and the more money you have to spend, the more you have to charge.

I would say to try Blockbuster but I know first hand that Netflix has a wider selection on movies to watch instantly.

Sorry, wish I could’ve been more help. I was actually looking into this about 2 months ago and just kept Netflix because that was my best bet.

  46. QUESTION:
I’m disappointed with NETFLIX, what are the best, similar options?
I used to love it, but now nothing good is on INSTANT and they raised the rates!! Also, I’ve been having glitches (?) saying I have it running on 2 devices, which I do not.

What is like Netflix with the best prices, and biggest instant selection?

    • ANSWER:
Other than Blockbuster thats really it. Stick with Netflix beacuse they plan to minimize the DVD part of their company and move to mainly instant streaming so it should get better.

  47. QUESTION:
How does Netflix online DVD rentals compare to Blockbuster Online Rentals?
I currently have Netflix and wanted to save more money but the website for Blockbuster is down. Does anyone know the prices/plans for Blockbuster online rentals and if anyone can tell me about the service? i.e. How fast and convenient and if anyone thinks it’s worth the $$?

    • ANSWER:
I also have netflix and did the Trial Offer Plan with Blockbuster just to see.

The prices are about the same.
I liked the Netflix website better.
The movie arrival time was about the same.
It is nice that you can return a movie to Blockbuster and it is instantly credited as returned.
I liked the free in store rentals but I found myself forgetting that they had a return date and I would always be late.
Blockbuster may be better for someone who lives around the corner from a Blockbuster but for me it was on the otherside of town so the advantages really didn’t apply to me.
I also really enjoy the “watch instantly” from Netflix. I bought the box from Roku that allows you to channel the movies from your watch instantly Queue straight to your television. I love it.

      Hope this helps.

Yes. Sometimes they will limit the amount of minutes per month that you watch instantly but they are hardly doing that anymore. You should have unlimited instant movie watching minutes.

  49. QUESTION:
I bought a Option Call Call-Netflix Com Inc Aug 110 price, Can I sell it before the 110$ price?
It is at 107$ now, I think I would be making money at this price also, but is there a limitation on the strike price that I bought it? do I have to wait until it reaches to 110$ price?
    Thank you

    • ANSWER:
You can sell your call options at anytime prior to expiration whether or not its strike price is met. If you bought those Aug110Calls out of the money and it is now in profit, you should sell it quick for the profit before time decay steepens and take those profit away. Unless you see NFLX going on much higher than 0 before August expiration.
