   Are there any auditions for new film releases for a female aged between 12 and 15?
   Please hlep me, I have been living an ordinary life so far, and I know that i can make it. My parents can’t afford to get me a place at a drama school, or even a saturday class. Many people say “Go for pantomines,” But I don’t want to; I just want to be my dream job: an actress, and I know that I am exceptionally talented. I’ve signed up for acting websites to help find me auditions, but they all cost money. I just wanted to know if there are any auditions for upcoming films – in England – and if so where, and when.
   I’m 13, and would love to play any part.

   • ANSWER:
     Here’s the thing: most auditions are closed to anyone who’s not already established as a professional. There are hundreds of people your age who got lucky and had the advantage of parents who got them started years ago–some in infancy. Then, there are also young adults who can look and act 13.

     So even if you got to an open audition, you’d be competing with dozens of other hopefuls. If you were a director, wouldn’t you want to work with someone experienced who already knows the language and standards of conduct on a production set? And especially, wouldn’t you want to cast a young adult who won’t stick you with child-labor laws (ref. the recent film Juno–how old was the actress who played the pregnant teen???).

     You might want to look up the bio for Sarah Jessica Parker. Her parents had no resources either, but she was able to take advantage of many free programs to develop her performing skills. That’s what you should do right now, find free resources. Try to get into amateur or school productions. And (oh this sounds boring) concentrate on your schoolwork, all of it–professional actors don’t play bankers or scientists or lawyers in spite of being totally ignorant of academics!

     And read books about acting (I prefer Uta Hagan, Robert Lewis, and Stanislavski’s “An Actor Prepares”). And also bios of actors you admire, books about other aspects of stagecraft, and materials about the business end of show biz. The more you know…

     After you reach the age of consent, you can plan your own professional education and start to fight, scratch, claw, and suffer your way into the profession, if you have the passion and persistence.

     One movie you DON’T have to see in high def is Bruno! My god I saw that at the cinemas and I think I’ll be scarred for life by a few key moments (close ups of certain areas of the anatomy come to mind).
     One new release film that is always better in High definition is Harry Potter. I just saw the 5th one on DVD on my little TV and I have to say it’s no where near as good as seeing it at the movies. I saw the 4th one on my friend’s blu ray with plasma and it was really really good, almost like being at the cinemas but with comfier seats and better food. Nice

     Do not use limewire for downloading movies……use uTorrent or BitComet. Limewire movies are riddled with viruses. I learned that the hard way and it cost me a whole new PC.

     For his fans who will want to see his latest picture it should still be released.
     For his young daughter, it will be forever a tribute to her father’s acting ability.

11. QUESTION:
    I want to start a cinema. Where do I purchase new release films before they reach the big screen?
    Where do cinemas in general go to find their films to show? I need a contact or website to buy these new releases as they get released from the producers or studios before they even reach the rest of the theaters. How do I go about? I am starting a small independent cinema in my home town.

    • ANSWER:
      First thing first, you need to learn how the movie theatre business works.

      Your first lesson: theatres rent movies from the studios, they do not buy them. Films are rented for a percentage of the gross which will often net out to about 55/45 for the studio.

      Your second lesson: just because you want a movie in your theatre does not mean you’ll be able to get it when you want it. When you can get a movie will often depend on the kind of business your theatre does and how long your theatre can play the movie. Although it sounds counter-intuitive, the studios are often more concerned with weeks on screen than the actual gross – at least for first run theatres. If you can not guarantee at least 2-3 weeks on screen for most new releases, you will not be able to get most movies the opening weekend.

      Your third lesson: not all movie releases are created equally.
      -Some movies are wide releases which are available to virtually any theatre nationwide on the opening weekend.
      -Some movies are wide releases, but are not available to smaller theatres/markets during the first few weeks.
      -Some movies are limited releases which only play in major cities; some limiteds eventually expand to nationwide, some do not.

      Finally, you will need to find a film booker who will work as your go between with the studios. It is possible for you to do the film bookings yourself, but it will be difficult without industry contacts. You really need a booker who has the buying power of several hundred screens. This makes it much easier to get what you want than if you’re just a couple screens all by yourself.

      I should also add that unless you have some really good connections within the movie industry, you have absolutely zero chance of getting sneak previews, advance screenings, or test screenings in a small town.

      If you’re interested in becoming an “art house” where you specialize in smaller studio releases, independent movies, and foreign films, you should understand there is completely different set of dynamics at play.

    Is it possible to buy new movies on DVD that have been edited for content?
    I’d like to watch a few of the newer film releases but with the bad language, gore, and sexual content removed. Do any companies offer this service? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
      No – there were companies that used to do this, but they did it without the studios permission and got sued, so it’s illegal to do this. But there is a company that sells a DVD player that you download filtering files to and it will skip the parts you don’t want to see.. Getting the filters does require a membership.

      Let him go to the party. I know it sounds underhanded but it’s no reflection on your child if someone else has pirated a movie. I would be a little suspicious about the people showing it though.

    Movies in Theatres don’t never get the full seating capacity filled to see the new released film. Why?
    People leave1or 2 spaces between each other. Sometimes more.

    • ANSWER:
      I am guessing it is because theaters typically call there official capacities just less than the number of seats in the theater. For instance, if the capacity is 100, they may have 110 seats. It probably goes back to the days before they had computers to count the number of tickets. They did not want to get into a situation where they miscounted the number of tickets, then have people angry because they did not have enough seats.

      There last update said “Imaginarium will be shot in September”, so they have not yet filmed anything. Its gonna be a while before we all know how and where they are going to release the movie.
      Thought the cd ‎”Imaginarium” will be released already at the end of this year!”. Not the start of next year as they said in the beginning.

    How can more people be made aware of the new Film More Than A Game without it being advertised? it’s wonderful?
    The film is in limited release, but is so good everyone should have a chance to see it on the big screen. There is no advertising being done so no one can possibly know it’s playing. What can be done?

      Try posting info about it on a blog. Post information about it on youtube. Try to do someting with Digg or Current. Possibly post something interesting on wikipedia or imdb. If you listen to any popular podcasts write in to them and see if they will mention that movie. using a podcast will be especially usefull if the podcast is related to movies with independant releases.

      Just like McCain, “W” could not live up to the reputations of his father and grandfather, he had a drinking problem and was only allowed to attend Yale because of his father. He was not the smartest and only because of the poor Democratic choices Americans voted this unqualified man into office. He will go down in history as one of the worst Presidents of all time. It has nothing to do with Republican or Democrats, he was pitiful regardless of his party choice.

    What is the deal with film studios releasing new HD-DVD and Blu-Rays 5 years after DVDs became popular?
    VHS was released in 1976, and after winning the “war” with betamax became the most popular home video medium for nearly 30 years. Now it’s been only five years since I heard the news stories touting the new DVDs and now I hear stories touting HD-DVDs and Blu-Rays. Is this just a cash grab?

    I personally think this will soon overtake DVDs cause of our materialistic younger culture that has a child’s mindset of “Gotta have this!” But that’s another story.

    • ANSWER:
      There’s always something. VCRs started in the late 1970s, but didn’t take off until the 1980s. Laserdiscs were also around during that time and took off (relatively) in the late 80s and early 90s. Most people don’t really remember Laserdiscs, but they were better than VHS just like HD DVDs are better than DVDs.

      DVDs started in 1997, overtaking VHS around 2001 or so. That gave VHS a pretty good twenty year run. But things move along. DVD is still king and probably will remain so for several more years. In the end it’s about giving consumers a choice. They can upgrade and get better discs or just stick with what they have. No one’s forcing anything, and those that do upgrade get a better product. Besides its backward compatible, so DVDs will still be played in the new players. It’s win-win. Stick with what you have and be happy, get something new and better and be happy.

      Let’s not forget what’s happened with music. From 45s and LPs to 8-tracks and cassettes to CDs and Mp3s. There’s always something, and that’s ignoring the more obscure formats. At least now technology is backwards compatible.

      But today Entertainment Weekly is reporting that according to their sources, Fox will only go ahead with an “Alien” prequel if original director Ridley Scott comes on board. It’s actually the smart move on Fox’s part because while they could easily bully a freshman director like Rinsch, the “Alien” property has lost so much clout over the years that the only way to re-ignite interest is to put the man who launched the franchise back in charge. However, if this is a deal-breaker for Fox, it looks like this deal will be broken because Scott already has eighty-bajillion projects on his plate, including an adaptation of the board game, “Monopoly”.

    when is the new miyazaki film TALES OF EARTHSEA being released?
    in english. i know it’s already out in a buttload of other languages, but i can’t seem to find a release for us poor english speakers

      The SciFi channel has complete rights to Earthsea until 2009, which is why no region 1 release yet exists. A region 1 release could occur some time this year, but I have seen no mention of when.

      Ebay because its bidding process will give you a better chance of selling it at a higher price (and that cel is really worth something so don’t sell it cheap) but if I were you I’d keep it.

      They’re trying to phase out DVD sales by bundling the DVD with the Blu-Ray. The digital copy is for those who want to download the movie to their iPhone or similar device…

      I do find it annoying as well. The digital download version shouldn’t be a separate disk–instead they should just include a link on the Blu-Ray version so you can just download it off the internet.
